Help Galaxy S3 won't update from 4.1.1 !!!

Hello

I have been trying to update my S3 for sometime now, but when I click Software Update and check for updates, it says that there are none at this time. Is there a way that I can plug into my computer and do it manually? I think I really need this update as my battery life is sub-par and apps that I have kept up-to-date are not functioning properly. Very frustrating! Any tips/advice would be so greatly appreciated. This problem is driving me nuts.

You might be able to use Kies to do it.

However, if you are on 4.1.1, that is the software that has the ability to be user unlocked. If you do the unlock, it will stick after you update to 4.3.

So, you might want to think about unlocking before you update.
 
Samsung Kies is pc software. Google it and install it then plug the phone into the pc and it might tell you theres an update available.
If not it gets a bit more complex lol :thumbup:
 
I have the same problem wont update to 4.1.2. Not even using kies. Is there any other way to update to 4.1.2.. any help.
 
Yup. You'll have to manually flash it.
On the PC, download an app called Odin. It's software used by like Samsung technicians etc.
And have a look in sammobile.com/firmware for the update you want (4.1.2 or 4.3) for your specific phone model and carrier. Download that to your PC and I'll try n find a guide to using Odin :thumbup:

Think about what update you want. A lot of people have had problems with 4.3. A lot of these problems can be fixed by wiping the phone but not all.
Once you go to 4.3 you can't go back ;)
 
Not %100 sure but depending on model of your gs3 it may not have an update. My Sgh-t999n had 4.1.2 from the start now im up to 4.3.1 in a sense. Also through kies you must enable usb debugging if you havent already. Then plug your phone in and let kies regonize it

Hey Greg, the only way to get kitkat is with a custom rom and before you do that you need a custom recovery.
Probably the best way to get that is to flash a file (using Odin) called CF Auro-Root exactly the same way as flashing an update like in that link.
This roots the phone and installs CWM custom recovery.
Once you have custom recovery it's really easy to back the phone up and flash a rom :thumbup:
 
Thanks so much for all of this info. I'll figure out if I am even eligible for an update based on my model. Hope I am, or else I don't know what is wrong with my phone!
