Galaxy S4 Back Cover

Hey everyone,

I've always been a fan of brushed aluminum, I recently purchased a brushed aluminum back cover for my GS4 from ebay for about $10 but I've noticed a significant decrease in carrier reception when installed. Has anyone else come across this issue?

I really don't like the stock back plate/battery cover, I want to keep the brushed aluminum. Would putting a hole (or a few holes) on the back fix this issue? I already tried drilling a small hole (about an inch to the right of the speaker opening and it didn't do much to solve my reception problems. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Ps. I had a hunch in the beginning that it would interfere with the reception but for $10 I thought i'd give it a shot, if anything at least you guys know that it would cause some minor-to-major signal loss (depending on where you're located).

When I had my S3 i bought one of those aluminum back covers for my phone and had the same issue. My reception went way down.

Most average manufacturers. Quality manufacturers can make aluminum work.

Exactly. HTC, Apple, and now Nokia have managed to use aluminum without issue. I can see they have been spending their money on R&D instead of marketing. Consumers win in those cases.

Most of the people I know with aluminum phones have a PLASTIC case on them anyway. What a joke! The marketing companies have a lot of people convinced that a Metal phone is 'better' than a plastic one. Do you have a phone in your home? What's it made of? Yeah, that's right plastic! How come none of you complained no one ever made a home phone out of aluminum??? Is the steering wheel on your car aluminum? wouldn't THAT make it feel more upscale? How about the remote to your home entertainment equipment? Yeah, that's plastic too, correct? What about the keyboard most of us are typing this on, yeah, that's plastic too. If you like the feel of metal in your hand, that's cool, but when form takes priority over function, I think it's a bad idea, not something to praise.

I'll take a replaceable battery and external storage card and all the wonderful features on the S4 over a solid metal case any day.
