Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, as I've searched high and low to find answers to my problem, but it's so inconsistent, so my searches aren't leading to help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from T-Mobile. (It's about a year and a half old, so it's not under warranty.) It is not rooted or anything like that but the OS and all that are up to date. Thursday afternoon, I realized the lights were on, but the screen wouldn't wake up. I was at the gym, and after fiddling with it for a bit, I just took the battery out for awhile. When I put it back in, it finally worked. I was at home with it plugged in and charging that night, and when I unplugged it, it shut off again. Since then, it has continued to randomly shut off or restart. Sometimes it turns back on immediately with my prompting. Sometimes it just restarts without any user intervention. Sometimes I have to take the battery out for awhile and pray it works when I put it back in.
I bought a new battery less than six months ago, and I've tried it with that battery and my older one. Both have the same issue. I recently (Tuesday and Wednesday) moved a lot of files to my SD card, and I thought maybe that was the issue. Since then, if I leave the SD card out, the phone behaves for longer spans of time, but inevitably, it goes back to the issues at some point throughout the day. I have also uninstalled most of my apps; at first I thought maybe I had installed something faulty, but that hasn't helped, nor does a specific app opening, etc., seem to be triggering it. The phone does seem to get hot to the touch/hotter than usual when the issue is happening.
At first I was thinking it was the SD card, the battery, or an app, but it doesn't seem to be that way. At this point, I'm thinking there has to be some type of short or hardware malfunction. A hard reset is just about the last thing I can fathom to do before seeking an insurance replacement. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? The main consistency to my issue is the inconsistency, which is driving me crazy more than anything else.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP OR IDEAS!!!
