Root Galaxy/Stock android on behold 2 - It flies!

I'm kinda on the fence. I wanna give this a try but I really want to see what Sammy has in store in their update. I'm a total noob so I'm a little worried to give this a try. I too would need a noob guide to do this.

Ohgami, My understanding, and I'm pretty sure someone with more knowledge will correct me if I'm wrong, is that this will not affect the update from Samsung. If you decide to go with that, you can use odin to get the original firmware back on your phone and upgrade that with the official update. I want to upgrade my phone based on the vimeo video earlier in this thread. I'd give up whatever 2.0 w/TouchWiz Samsung is working on to have that kind of responsiveness.

yes this is true for now all we have is the rom from galaxy with is a no brainer to switch to for now! Once Samsung realeses there up date people will be talking about it all over on this forum. If you decide to get the update OTA then flash the odin files back and your all set. But im sure by that time we will have our own custom rom of android 2.x that will be way better, so please dont have any hesitations to switch over, I promise you will not regret it!

Hey guys.

Yes the # lines are comments, and they're prefixed with a # because thats the comment marker for shell. It doesnt matter if u paste them, they'll just be ignored!

A little tip. Assuming you have all the files in place you can actually copy most of the command in a block and paste them into your cmd window. I'll update the First post with comments for paste block 1,2,3 etc

You can copy one block, and paste it, then wait for a #, press enter a few times to make sure they're done, and paste the next block.

Thats cool I wondered if you could paste more than one line at a time

I don't know if this is a lot to ask....but its obvious that a lot of people are curious but we're too afraid to give it a shot. how about making a video guide to ease us into it lol... : / ..... I'd LOVE to try this out...really I do but I have no Idea what's going on..

I'd be willing to be a guinea pig =]

Thanks for your help and keep up the good work =]

I followed the steps outlined by Kam and it is working great. Much better than the Samsung version.
MMS, Camera, Bluetooth, browsing, all work great.
I am still having trouble with the speakerphone fix - do you have to do a factory refresh after you just do the speakerphone fix?

Guys you have to help me i messed up, i tried using odin it all went great until it went to recovery mode when it got stuck at 5%, and in Odin multidownloader it passed 6 mins and stopped??? now i think i bricked my phone. Cmon guys help plz i really need it, what should i do????

A bit more detail would really help. What is displayed on your phone? Did odin go all the way to the end, and then your phone rebooted?

If so, just put it into download mode again, and odin it again.

I think my phone got bricked just like shawn1224. the pc no longer even reads it as usb, it just says 5% and stays that way. i know i did everything right, dont know why this happened. Waiting for battery to drain and try again. Plz help someone, anything i can do or is the phone completely useless

Pull Battery>>Download Mode>>Try to Re-ODIN...

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I never did anything like this. So I'm a 1st timer to this so I'd need dummy instructions. I know using ODIN I can go back to default when Sammy decides to do their update if it looks like they got their act together.

No doesnt work. If i replace battery the screen which says samsung behold 2 when you start it comes followed by a green screen then it says 5% which is where it hung while using odin. Guess odin is not so safe after all. Plus it doesnt read as a usb drive and the buttons dont seem to work. Another probem is i bought this phone from the u.s and am using it in india. I really doubt samsung will do anything about it. Is it possible for samsung to fix the phone? Can someone please suggest what to do from here? Is it possible if i send it to the u.s it will be fixed or tmobile will exchange it??

Would it be risky to try to root the phone after this procedure? I just read about the "OpenGL working on Galaxy" and would like to give that a shot, but I am happy with my setup and don't want to risk ruining it just from some greedy hope.

Murf

If you are seeing the Samsung Behold screen you are not going into download mode. Pull the battery, put it back in. Press Vol Down + OK + PowerON... it will put the phone in download mode then send files via Odin.

hmmm, but when i connect the phone to my comp then replace the battery it goes to the samsung beold screen automatically.

Did you wait a really long time? It took my phone about 5 minutes to come up after a factory reset (seems longer when you think your phone may be bricked!)

ya they are still working on getting vibrate to work, and also getting touchwiz camera app also. Maybe we will see 2.0 also.

Same thing happened to me flamereaper. The first time I used ODIN I had no problems. The 2nd time it stopped midway thru downloading and froze up. The timer will still tick on ODIN mutlidownloader but if the blue bar stops progressing, there's a problem. I pulled the battery and tried to re-download but same thing happened. On the 3rd try the screen just went to a blank white screen with download and a picture of the sim card on it. I tried master reset but it went to the same screen ... itried to download, same thing and when you connect to your pc it automatically brings up the blank screen without pressing any buttons.

Call Samsung as soon as possible and open up a ticket request and they'll email you a UPS label to ship it off. It's still under factory warranty as long as it's not a result of physical/water damage.

Hmmm strange. Did you try to remove the battery. Hold down volume down + call + power, and then replace the battery while they're held.

You might need someone to help you with all those presses!
