Newbie
I recently rooted my phone and everything was fine. But now my gallery wont show. And i tried erasing it and re installing it but it wont let me install. Any idea how i can get it back? Or just putting all the files and everything back to OEM and just re rooting it and re erase bloated apps?

any help would be highly appreciated!

I am not rooted...but today I was trying to open up my gallery and it would open for a split second and then close. I cannot get it to open up...help!!?

Damn, the same thing here. I'm not rooted. Didn't install any new apps in awhile. Everything worked fine up until today when Gallery doesn't open up anymore. Just like in above post, opens up for a second and than shuts down. The only way I can get to my camera roll is by opening Camera and going into picture link in the lower left corner. Than I can view my pics. But going to Gallery link doesn't work. Help!!!!!

Some friends at crackberry helped me and here is the solution:

Go to Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications. Select the All Applications tab at the top. Look for Gallery, Media Content, and Media Container Services, then for each one, clear Data and Cache if anything in there.

After you have done that you need to reboot your phone and wait a little bit. All photos should be restored and the gallery should be working again.

Try running this program SDrescan. It helped me.

SDrescan - Android app on AppBrain
Everyone is posting this, but its doesn't help worth a damn. IMO.

Actually, it can be helpful. Just not in the way OP requested.

baberz is correct - simply delete the old media DBs so the OS
is forced to rebuild them. But, as his explanation implies, that
rebuilding process won't take place until reboot...at least, your
phone wants to do it this way, by default.

Here's where that SDrescan app comes in. Use it to invoke full
card-scan and DB refresh, with no need to reboot. It still takes
a few minutes for a card with lots of files, but it's less hassle all-
round, I think. Plus, you get the satisfaction of doing it your way. ;)

Hope this helps.

PS: This isn't guesswork. Tested on an unrooted DX.

That worked the first time I did that. Now it will not reset and reload the stock Gallery app. I can still use 3D Gallery. My problem now is that DX won't allow me to use any picture widgets to add to my screen. Really weird. Can't add stock picture widget frame, 3D or Big Photo Frame. Any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds good but I erased it and it wont let me reinstall it. How do I install again and obtain the odex file too?
