Gallery + Clock/Alarm apps gone

Yesterday, inexplicably, my stock clock/alarm app stopped working. In the Settings/Applications page, the clock app's name is grayed out and shown as taking 0 space.

However, today I decided to uninstall WeatherBug, suspecting that this is the culprit, and after rebooting my phone, the Gallery and Videos apps similarly disappeared! Same issue - grayed out in the Applications page. I'm running 2.3.4 on this phone.

Has anyone been able to fix this issue? Is this just a very common issue with the Inc2? Are there any apps specifically that are prone to causing this and should be avoided? I could try to do a factory reset, but that's a couple of hours down the drain, and there's no guarantee that this won't happen again. Thanks

Just as an update, I did a factory reset on my phone but left the SD card intact. This restored the broken apps, and everything worked fine until this morning. Now, the stock Internet app has the same issue. I have the AVG "anti-virus" program installed and turned on, but it hasn't indicated anything.

My five and I have had a few issues. The latest for me if the alarm clock stooped working a few days ago.

HTC is going to have to fix this issue but I'm not holding my breath that this will happen. I've been reading posts since July where HTC is telling people "we're working on it" but we still have no fix. I started a thread in Android Central yesterday about how buggy the software for this phone is. It appears as though app just freeze themselves for no apparent reason. That is why they are greyed out. And unless you are rooted, only a factory reset unfreezes them. I think hardware wise this phone is rock solid but the buggy software is starting to annoy me.

When I had my BlackBerry Storm and apps would stop working all I had to do was a battery pull and all was good again. The battery pulls on my BlackBerry used to annoy me. Now I miss them. This factory reset to get things working again is BS.
