Help Gallery duplicate pic issue

All of a sudden my camera folder in Gallery shows 2 pics of each one! So from 250 pics, all of a sudden I have 500...any ideas?
 
Found the answer on XDA in case anyone else has this problem-evidently many do:

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Media Storage>Clear Data

Then reboot...worked a charm.

Mods, please do what you want with thread..probably can be closed
 
As I understand, Gallery scan for any image files, anywhere on internal and removable media cards and storage space. If you really do have multiple copies of photos -- say a camera folder and a dropbox folder -- Gallery shows them both whether you want them shown or not.

Yeah. Gallery loves reading it's own thumbnails. I've deleted wrong one and wound up with thumbnail size a couple of times.
 
I'll note that it seems like this happens everytime I use the phone as a flashdrive- connecting it to a PC.

Then I have to erase the data from media settings and my playlists vanish.

Yes, I'm still stubbornly using Android OS 2.2
