Gemini Calendar - my vision of calendar software

Event duplication - I have thought about it long time ago and I think I have a nice solution, which will be comfortable and easy to do. There is only one, little problem, regarding the calendar API, which prevents me from implementing this solution. I will think about it again.

Powell, i just want to point out that you could probably implement the ability to modify the calendar associated with an event art the same time, since this is equivalent to event duplication followed by deleting the original event.

Powell,
If I back-up Gemini up to the SD card, will it also back-up the calendar events?

I am afraid backing up is not the solution to your problem.
Gemini does not save ANY calendar data in a separate file. It just interfaces to the calendar database, which is installed in the system and which is common to the rest of calendar applications. And which is supposed to be synchronized with Google site.

Hi,

here I am with another silly questions of mine. :)

Topic: calendar colors.

I see there's an option in Gemini Calendar to use the same Google Calendar color for events "bars" and widget day numbers.
However, since my home screen has a dark background, the colors I use on Google Calendar are not viable, because they're too dark... and I can't set lighter colors on Google without making unreadable on the web!

If I un-check the "calendar color" option in Gemini however, my calendar color turns purple. I don't know why that particular color... Is there a way to choose the default calendar color for each calendar in Gemini?
The funny thing is that a friend of mine has a different yellow-ish default color on his HTC Magic (that would be great on mine!), but we can't figure out why. Is it random?

As always, thanks a lot!

If you do not choose to have the same color as in a Google Site, color is picked up from the hard-coded table. The position in this table depends on the calendar number....
So it is not random, but you may have the different colors in two different Google Accounts...

Ok, ok, I hear you loud and clear: color picker would be nice :D

I installed this calendar on my milestone, android 2.1-updat1
everything else is very good. But I never can make the alarm work.
Am I the only one having this problem?

I am also having a problem with alarms on my htc incredible. There is never an audible alarm and I have set up several alarms at different intervals. Also, the vibrate option is grayed out, so I can't get it to vibrate either. Should there also be something in the notification area when an alarm goes off?

Powell,

Oh well. How about this?
When I bring up the edit event in Gemini the 1st line shows whether it is located in the My Calendar or Google Calendar. But it's grayed out. Is there any way you can open (un-gray) this field for it to be changed?

One other ques. A while back I asked whether you would be adding any options other than 'Add call event' when doing an Add From Book? Any possibility this is this being considered for a future update?

Thanks again,

I have been reading most of this thread and finally down loaded the app. It is an improvement over the calendar that came with the evo phone, but I don't care too much about the brushed metal look and the little o's above the days. Any chance to change that?

However: what I really need is an alarm that rings so many minutes before the appointment, until I turn it off. And I thought, reading all the comments, that had been implemented. If so, I don't know how to set it. All I get is a one time ring. If I am in the shower I'll miss it.

Very good work though!

I am really enjoying your calendar app, especially how the widget clears up my desktop. However, is there a way to invite "Guests" or as I like to call it, Invitees? I can't seem to find that any where, which of course, means it's right smack obvious in front of my face. :) John...

But I never can make the alarm work.
Am I the only one having this problem?

Try to enter the generic calendar, that comes with your device, and set the notification tone. Gemini Calendar should use the same tone for the its alarms. I will add this to the Gemini configuration in the future.

The same with vibration - you should be able to set it in the generic calendar application.

It is not possible now, but probably will be, I will consider it when I start to implement moving/copying events.

How exactly would you like this feature to be done?

I am planning skins, you will be able to change the look of Gemini Calendar, maybe even add your own skins. This is however plans for rather distant future.

That is the request which appears every now and then, I am aware that it would be a good idea to be able to change this.

However, is there a way to invite "Guests" or as I like to call it, Invitees? I can't seem to find that any where, which of course, means it's right smack obvious in front of my face.
No, it is not possible now.

Thank you again for your feedback. Sorry, if I have not answered all your questions and reports, I am a little busy nowadays. I hope I will come back on track soon.

I just found out after using it extensively for work, that I cannot select if I want to "change this instance" or "change the whole series". I hope this will be implemented, but I can use the default calendar app to do this so it's no hurry.

I just picked this app up and I love it. Just a couple of very minor issues I'm having:

I can't find a way to delete just one instance of a recurring event, it deletes all of them.

When editing the description of an event, it will not allow me to delete the entire description, but if I change the description to something else it will save the change.

Keep up the great work!

When editing the description of an event, it will not allow me to delete the entire description, but if I change the description to something else it will save the change.

This happened to me once. It worked after I exited Gemini and did some random playing around with my phone and came back to Gemini trying to delete the whole description text again.

Which reminds me, is it possible to add an option in the settings to enable/disable the automatic displaying of the Description text when we are looking at the day view? Some of my descriptions are very long and I have to scroll many times in order to reach the other events at the bottom of that day.

I downloaded Gemini calendar couple of weeks ago, calender works perfectly ok, I love it. Much better then default calendar.

I use Magic+, I am having problem with widget display. It says "No upcoming events"
I reinstalled couple of times. calender selection matches with original.

When I add evens using main calendar it gives me choices to add into any of my calendar but when I try to add using widget, only choice I get to add is "default".

Looks like widget is not reading or detecting all of my calendars.

Please help.

I've been using my Incredible for about a month now, and was becoming less and less happy with the stock calendar app. I, like others, am coming over to Android from the Palm world (Datebook spoiled me).

Kudos to Powell for developing this great app. I read this entire thread tonight, read the tips on the website and have been finding my way around.

There's one thing that I can't seem to find a way to do. If it can't be done, then I guess I'm making a request.

I like the way you can go to either the day view or day/month view by tapping different areas of the widget. When I go to the month view, it's easy to switch to the day view by double-touching on a date. But I can't find a way to enter the day view from the widget, and from there switch to the day/month view. Is there something I'm missing? I find I have to back out of the app, and re-enter from the widget?

Another thing I'm seeing is something someone else has mentioned: when using the scroll pad to change months, scrolling ahead to January puts me in Jan 2010, rather than 2011. There doesn't seem to be a way to get to next year using the scroll pad. I can get there by scrolling with the month name.

Any help?

Hi Powell,
I noticed an issue with my event times changing when I travel into a new time zone. I entered a number of events regarding airline flights for this week. When I left my time zone, the scheduled times for my events changed according to the new time zone. I live in the central time zone and have traveled to southern Florida which is in the eastern time zone. I entered the times for my flights based on the times given by the airlines which takes into account the time difference. Now, all of these flight times have adjusted forward one hour. This is a real problem for me. If I enter an appointment for 1:00 I don't want the calendar to automatically change the time I set. My appointment will still be at 1:00 no matter where I am. I will adjust my watch to reflect the current time zone when I get there then will review my calendar for to see when and where I need to be. Had I not noticed that the event time had changed from what I had originally selected, I would have arrived an hour late for my flight this coming Friday. I travel a lot and need my calendar to keep my events times exactly as I set them. I hope this makes sense. Please help if you can.

Thanks for everything. I know you have put a lot of hard work into this application.

I forgot to mention, the times have not changed in my online google calendar. Only the times on my phonw calendar have changed.
Thanks,
B

I forgot to mention, the times have not changed in my online google calendar. Only the times on my phonw calendar have changed.

Times in online Google Calendar did not change, because online Calendar is still in the same place ;) It has the timezone set according to the initial setup which was executed when you created your account (BTW: you can change online timezone in the preferences). If you travel around the world, timezone of the online calendar does not change, timezone in your phone does.
Try to add event in the generic calendar, installed by default in your device, then, if you change timezone (travel to the other place, or change timezone manually in the phone preferences), the times of the event will change too, as it is in the Gemini Calendar.
When you add an event to the calendar, it is added in the current timezone, then, if you change timezone, time is also changed, to maintain the absolute moment, when the event starts.
I think it is the way it is designed by the Android developers, however, I don't insist, that it is the right way. Maybe it could be solved somehow, but right now, I am not sure how.
