Help General Issue with Contacts

Hello. I just bought and activated an HTC Hero on Sprint. I am having an issue with the contacts. I put all of my phone contacts in manually. I then added my YAHOO ang Google email accounts. Well I now notice that I have multiple contacts, meaning I have 2 contacts that say Dad, Libby, etc......
How do I get the duplicates off? Or is there some way to merge the duplicates together? I am sure its something simple but I am new to Android and still learning.

Using Google contacts on a computer or via phone browser with user agent set to computer, click on "more Actions" and choose "find and merge duplicates". The duplication may be because you restored and/or imported contacts directly to the phone that were already in Google contacts.

HTC ufortunatly defaults to putting contacts you create on the phone into the phone memory rather than google. You get more input fields but you lose cloud sync. In the people app you can link the phone/google/facebook contacts together so they show up as one entry. only problem is you have to update each entry individually. I did this by mistake initally and I finally just deleted the 'phone' entries and just keep the google contacts updated.
