Root [GENERAL] Project Open Cannibal needs beta testers!

We are proud to announce the creation of the best thing since sliced bread...

Project Open Cannibal

Who we are:
Project Open Cannibal is an all-inclusive group of enthusiasts who just want to give people another choice. From ROMs and hacks to highly customized recoveries and high-performance kernels our goal is to rock the Android world with our skills and enthusiasm for this amazing ecosystem that Google has created.

What we do:
This, most of you should already know. Currently our main project is Cannibal Open Touch, a super customized and user-friendly custom recovery that takes the best features of many well-known recoveries and joins them into one awesome behemoth.

Now to the point:
We are currently looking for folks who want to test the latest and greatest on their LG Optimus Elite device. Those who want to test will need an ample knowledge of how to use ADB (the Android Debug Bridge), and will need to know how to extract a recovery log in case something breaks. You will also need to be able to type comprehensively, as a requirement for testing is being able to submit proper bug reports.

Great! How do I sign up?
It's easy! Just circle us on Google+, then mention us in a Google+ post (+ProjectOpenCannibal) with a paragraph or two detailing why you think we should select you to receive test builds. If you're selected (which most of you will be unless there's a glaring reason not to), you will be notified and will receive further instructions.

Don't feel like testing, but want to keep up on Project Open Cannibal news?
Just circle us on Google+! It's that easy.

Beautiful.
Thanks, Drew!!!!!

Hopefully there are some brave souls willing to test it out. It looks great!

How is this coming?

It was going pretty well, but at the moment we are having to deal with a massive targeted DDoS attack that has been going on for two days now. We are in the middle of securing web hosting at a center that has adequate measures to thwart such actions.

Hackers are putting a hurting on his site pretty bad. He's switching to a different web host with better security.

Hope everything has cleared up on the battlefront. Can't wait to see this work in action.

Indeed we have. Unfortunately I now have another battle to fight, and that would be that my Elite seems to be mega bricked. Grrrrr. Resetting the memory in QPST doesn't work like it used to, so I'm somewhat stuck for the moment.

Is there currently a place where the source for it is publicly visible? If it's not too far from being done, I'm sure one of the devs on this forum could provide some insight with the elites recovery.

No, it shouldn't. If you mess up your MBR, EBR, or any of the first few partitions on this phone, you will break your phone beyond what we can repair. It will fall back to the Qualcomm download mode, which is different than the OEM download mode. So far, nobody has reported bringing one of our phones back from the Qualcomm download mode.

How would you even screw with that stuff tho? O.o I don't see how lol and is it any way possible to come back from that?

That guide is using LG drivers and software to talk to the phone and have it write stuff to internal storage. The phone must be in a certain state for it to listen to the LG software. In order for it to get to that state, it needs to boot up into the osbl.mbn, which is stored in the second partition. The manufacturer bootloader also needs to be run, which is on the first partition. How does it know where those partitions are? They are listed in the MBR. You also have the apsbl.mbn and friends that are on later partitions which are pointed to by the EBR, which is pointed to by the MBR.

The download mode that shows the "download in progress, do not disconnect cable" is implemented in our osbl.mbn. If you do anything to cause the phone not to be able to boot that far, it will only boot to QDL mode, where the screen stays black, it doesnt charge the battery, and the only way to tell it is working is because it shows up over usb.

Damnnnn haha. Well Drew hasn't replied yet so we don't know if that's what his problem is. But I don't see him online a lot on the androidforums, so I didn't know if he even knew about that new way to fix our phones. xD I hope his phone isn't stuck in QDL mode tho. Is there ANY possible way to even fix that issue if he is tho?

Unfortunately it seems I am in fact in QDL mode. I've been trying to get in contact with some folks from LG and Qualcomm but unfortunately have not had much luck thus far.

And you are correct, I'm not online much here but will be more in the near future. We're making a huge release this Saturday :D
