Help General questions thread/discussion (New to Android/M7?)

Is there any easy way to change the HTC yellow smileys back to the green stock Android ones?

I don't use them much but when people send messages to me I really hate the HTC ones, especially as they are so large.

Thanks for any help.

On most devices android 4.0+ the ringtone and notification volume are linked and cannot be changed separately. There is a way to change this in some custom ROMs, but you're likely out of luck with the stock rom, sorry.

bummer, hopefully Google wises up to how silly that is...
thanks!

Check out "ICS+ Enhanced Ringer Ctl Trial"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brianhislop.icsringervolumetrial

It's the only solution I know of, root not required. That's a 48 hour trial, the full version is US$2.99.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks!

I did however, also find Volume Butler,

Volume Butler | tougol

which looks to do similar, plus a lot more. I need to play with it and how "profiles" are handled, but it looks like it may do some other neat things as well, and for free.

How does one add a new contact to your linked google account and not just to the "phone"? or how does one move contacts from the "Phone" to google?

You should have an option where to save a contact when you save it. I'm not sure about moving contacts, hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

Interesting. So my phone, has the option, shows specifically, "Save to People".

However, once you select "New Contact" and get the contact editing screen, at the top is a button, "Contact Type", HERE you can select where it saves it, with the options being all your linked accounts that you have set to store contacts on the phone, one being Google.

Yes, that's how it works!

When I use the YouTube app on my One, if I tap share for any video, it only gives me options to share via Dropbox, BaconReader, Bluetooth or Box. No options for twitter or Facebook. I have both official apps for Twitter and FB and I am signed in. I have tried uninstalling the updates to YouTube and reinstalling. I also tried turning my phone off and on again and logging out and back in to Facebook and twitter. I'm on the Verizon HTC One, running 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0.

FYI I just checked my T-Mobile One, and it has options for FB and Twitter when sharing a YouTube video you're watching.

Edit - This may sound like a stupid question, but did you try scrolling the list? Only the top 4 appear but you can scroll to the others.

I cannot find the gsam>preferences>alarms.. can someone point me in the right direction??? sorry for being a newbie...hahah..

Welcome to the forums!

If you have GSAM installed, you should be able to open the app, click the three dot icon, and then click preferences. Then you should be able to scroll down to alarms. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions :)

I just got my HTC One yesterday through Verizon and I realized that when I get a missed call, the notification comes up on my lock screen and before I unlock the phone it also shows in my status bar. As soon as I unlock the phone, the missed call icon clears from my status bar.

This is a problem already because on my Incredible 2 it would always stay there until I cleared the status bar myself. So I never was in the habit of picking up my phone, turning on the screen and actually looking at my lock screen. So what happened to today was I got a missed call, but because I took out my phone, turned on the screen and unlocked it without really looking at it, I missed the fact that I had a notification. I only knew I did because they left me a voicemail.

Is there a way to fix this?

hello,

what lock screen are you using? have you tried other lock screens?

how soon are you waiting to unlock the screen?

on the surface this sounds like normal behavior on sense 5.

i can't recall how this happened on previous sense flavors, but i don't think there is nothing you can do about it and this is indeed stock behavior.

lemme try and test on my end. im stock and stock lock screen also...

Great, thanks.

It's not a deal breaker, but between that and the ringer and notification volumes being linked (hopefully the next update fixes that), it makes One more of an annoying experience than I would have liked it to have been.

OK just ignored a call. unlocked the device and the missed call icon is indeed in the notification area AFTER i unlock.

i use a numerical code to unlock the phone so i am not sure if that matters but the icon is indeed there.

maybe a verizon specific thing? i use sprint.

This may sound silly and obvious, but bear with me. When you unlock the phone, are you swiping up on the missed call notification itself, or on the little lock icon? The reason I ask is, if you swipe up on the notification (whether for missed call or text message or whatever), it OPENS that notification, which would mark it as "read", so it would then disappear from the notification bar.

If you swipe up just on the lock icon itself, it just unlocks to the main screen, and your notifications should stay in the bar.

This may not be what is happening, but it was something I thought of that could explain why you are seeing behavior that others aren't with this.
