Help General Questions

Please forgive if this has been covered. I bought an 11 pin adapter to connect to hdmi using older cable. It connects to the tv fine for pictures and video on phone, but while connected the phones data connection is turned off (can't play YouTube, Pandora, etc). I bought the cable because I don't have internet at the house. Is there a way around this? Thank you.
 
Without rooting, is there a way to delete the preloaded bookmarks in the stock browser? Or at least move them all to a folder so I don't have to scroll down through them to get to MY bookmarks? There's a feature for putting things in a different order, and it lets you move them around, but as soon as you're done sorting, they go back to the top.
And this is my 1st post here. Love my S3!

Long press on the bookmark you don't want. A menu will pop up and press delete.
 
excuse newbie here i dont know were im goin to post i just want to aske some problems regarding s3 camera... pictures and videos... coz im takng photos and video... ithe screen it was ok.. very very ok... but when im goin to wathc it and look for the photos and videos... its dark... very far wen im capturing and recording the video... i was so disappointed... hope theres any one can help me bout this... thanks...
 
I would like to ask a rookie question. Do I get a Kies cd software with the S3? I know I can download it off the samsung download center, but it is almost certain that I need to register my credit card. And I do not want to do that.

This doesn't work. A message pops up that says "This bookmark can not be deleted."
I can understand bloatware being stuck on a new phone, but why make bookmarks un-delete-able? Grr...

No, you do not get a cd. I downloaded Kies from the Samsung site twice and dod not have to give any kind of payment information.

It will do that if Wifi is on but not connected. That is the big difference. If you really want to save battery turn wifi AND data off until you need it. And in most cases wifi uses far less battery than 3g/4g. BUT you must be in range of a wifi adapter

Well there is but all i really meant that as far as the topic was concerned they are one in the same. Pretty sure you can't buy a new 'wi-max' phone. Sprint realized that was going no where

Just so I'm clear, my better half will need kies no matter what for any kind of updates?

Hers is on VZW and haven't even begun to look into this

I can't speak for T-Mobile, with VZW I can delete all but three. Sorry.

I just bought my galaxy S3 and I went to show someone S voice and it is gone. The app and everything, how do I get it back and where did it go!?
 
I am grandfathered into an unlimited data plan with VZW. My HTC Incred2 (purchased from VZW) was unlocked by VZW and I use it with a voice/data SIM acquired in asia without difficulty (to avoid VZW's costly overseas charges).

I've been gifted a GalaxyS3 acquired in Asia (quad core, etc) using HPSA+ which is not supported by VZW. What to do? Would rather not switch to T-mobile or ATT as my VZW plan has unlimited data. Would rather not use the S3 only overseas. My VZW dealer offered to trade my asian S3 (HSPA+) for a US S3 (CDMA) for $50 - but then I won't be able to use the US one overseas as it does not have global capacity.

Any suggestions?

In the market there is an app called Zedge. It has hundreds of free ringtones and SMS sounds. You can set them through the app or the sounds option in the phones menu.
 
I used to have Galaxy S so when I backuped my notes, KIES exported them to .smm format. From what I see, though, S3 (particularly S Note) uses .ssm. Can I somehow convert the first into the latter? Or maybe somehow make the S3 open .smm?
 
I've got SwiftKey as my default keyboard.

Whenever I use it (in whatsppa, texting, whatever) the small keyboard icon appears on the top left. When I drag down my notifications it's saying "On Going: Select Input Method" is this normal? Shouldn't it just reconise I've select a default already and just let me decide to change it back when I want to in the settings? I know it's very minor but wasn't sure if I had done something wrong with selecting my input method.

I have ordered an S3, which I'm waiting to arrive. I wanted an iPhone, but one thing which was a real deal-breaker for me was that I have a neurological condition and cannot type on a qwerty keypad on a phone, and I do a LOT of texting and emailing.

So I chose the S3 because it has multiple keypad options. However, I have been slightly horrified to notice in all the online video demonstrations etc, that the S3 seems to have white text on a black background, which I cannot read - it blinds me - again because of my condition. Is this something which can be changed?

In case you're wondering why I don't just go to a phone shop and try it out, I am bed bound, so that's not possible.

I tried asking a customer services person on the phone at o2 here in the UK, and he told me that the white-on-black can be changed. However he also told me that the iphone has both a T9 and Qwerty keypads, so he obviously couldn't be trusted to know what he was talking about!

I've just checked my phone and the default for the standard keyboard is white text on grey keys and, looking through the settings, I can't see any way to change this. But...

There are several alternatives available from the Google Play store which offer advantages over the stock keyboard, many of which are free. There is a loooong thread on this board where people express their preferences, so that's worth a look. For myself, I really wanted left / right / up / down cursor keys so that I could easily move the cursor to wherever I wanted. The solution I found was Perfect Keyboard Free, although I've since paid for Perfect Keyboard Pro. I have it set to show black text on light grey keys, although you can change this to suit your own preferences. It does also do compact and T9 layouts, as well as a split keyboard. Other people have settled on a different keyboard, such as Swiftkey - the nice thing is that you can, at the very least, try the free versions first, and it's quite likely that you'll find a free one that does everything you need. And, even if you decide to upgrade, it'll only cost you a pound/dollar or two.

There are many apps for Android which are totally free, but some where you'll probably decide it's worth parting with a small amount of money for. I certainly wouldn't be concerned that you won't find what you want - one of the beauties of Android is that it's open enough for there to be alternatives for almost anything.
