If they actually give a better signal, it's a complete fluke. People 'think' they're getting a better signal.
The reality is:
The antennas that are in any devices are tuned to the radio/frequencies used. This tuning is done by engineers who know antenna theory. Changing the physical makeup of an antenna without the proper knowledge can, & usually does, degrade & slowly destroy the radio &/or amplifier.
