My Wildfire is locked to three UK, but is now rooted and debranded. It is running much faster, and has no trace of the three branding, inside or out. I have got a generic firmware, which is the latest version, and I have all the files you will need to perform the rooting/debranding process. If I send you the files, do you know what to do with them; how to create a goldcard, how to root, and how to debrand, or will you need a walkthrough as well?

If your phone is branded, which you say it is, you need a goldcard to be able to root and debrand it properly. Without the goldcard it is impossible to remove the branding when you root the phone, I think. You need a memory card that has been blanked and formatted to FAT32 and a goldcard will be created on the memory card (if that makes sense).

Try the link below, which has the files you need, and instructions on how to create the goldcard. It is particularly important to ensure that you run the goldcard creator as admin, by right clicking and selecting the relevant option.

Goldcard - Root Your HTC Hero

If you have problems with the creation of the goldcard, or the rooting process in general, ask me and I will try to help you. I am aware it says Root Your HTC Hero, but the goldcard is the same.

The correct sequence is to create the goldcard in the phone, then root with unrevoked, then install a custom rom of your choice. I can give details of the specific steps required, should you come across a problem.

The goldcard works the same regardless of phone model. If your phone is debranded, and showing no obvious signs of three firmware (My 3, Favourites), etc and doesn't boot up with the 3 symbol, then you should be able to just install a generic rom of your choice to it.

Below is another explanation of the goldcard creation method, along with links to the files needed to create the card.

Whats the point of the goldcard then ? I used Unrevocked and it worked fine without one.
If i flash a different ROM will i still get updated like 2.2 Froyo ( when/If it comes out )??

The goldcard allows the firmware to be changed, so the build number can be changed along with it, allowing custom roms to be installed. If the goldcard isn't used, then the build number cannot be changed, and custom roms won't be installed. Also, the build number is what the new froyo will be linked to. If the build number is still linked to three, even if the phone appears unbranded, it will not update to froyo until three release their version.

Im back with the branded version lol 3 mobile
when Froyo is released ( If ) i will defo debrand and update to Froyo but in the meantime theres no rush for me.
Thanks for the advice i will follow it when Froyo is released.
Page Bookmarked :-)

Any ideas hpw to remove clockwork recovery ( HBOOT) when my phone is turned off and on charged i have to take the battery out for it to turn on !!!!

It's not something I have tried to do, but have you tried booting into recovery mode, then running a nandroid restore to your original firmware? I don't know if it will resolve the problem, but it should return your 3 firmware back to your phone, and kill all traces of the root file, until such time as you decide to root again.

ok im gunna go ahead and root this properly i have now a gold card :-) and will follow the steps what firmware are u using on ur wildfire if thats the phone u have.

I have a Wildfire, and it is running on generic firmware 2.1-update1. My build number is 1.37.405.1. The baseband is 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25.

Unpalatable, or updatable? I assume you mean updatable, and the answer is yes it will be as it is a standard generic rom found on vanilla handsets - that is handsets that were never network-locked. As soon as the generic froyo comes out as available, it should go onto your phone with no problem. You can also switch back to the three version, if you back up your original version before running the new one. It is a no-frills rom, but reasonably fast and very functional. It takes ages to start up the first time you set it up and run it, but after that, it is fine. Mine took around 20 minutes to boot up on first running, but now boots up quite quickly, with no three symbols, etc.

yeh its flashing as we speak i hate the fact that Unrevocked mess my phone up when i charge the phone when its off and take out the charger the light stays on and i cant start the phone up then i have to take the battery out !!!
still looking for a fix.

If it helps, when I ran the unrevoked program, without installing a rom of any kind, I had the same problem of having to remove the battery when I wanted to bring the phone off charge and start to use it. Since I installed the rom, I have not had that problem at all. My partner did on his Wildfire on the first few reboots, but it has been fine since then.

i changed the battery to the original one 1300mah ( i bought a spare :-) 1500mah )
now it works fine hmmm weird.
Rom is installed and working fine thanks for the advice and help
Hope Froyo turns out ok

Happy to help. Is your baseband the same as mine now, and has all the 3 stuff gone? The phone will still be locked to 3, as the rooting/debranding doesn't unlock the phone, but it will appear as unlocked when HTC release the froyo, due to the change of firmware.
