Hi. I am a new user here and I am interested in EnjoyTV ATV3000. Actually, I am interested in ATV4000 but it seems that it's not available for sale..
But with dvb-t dongle, atv3000 is pretty much the same as atv4000.
Device is supposed to work mainly as a DVB receiver, but also as a media player..
Anyway, I have few questions about the product and I could not find any answers anywhere so I'll ask from people here as it seems that some people have a setup that I am looking forward as well.
First of all, let me introduce everyone with my DVB experience. About 7 years ago I was angry to lousy DVB receivers and bought 2 very good receivers from manufacturer Dreambox (model 7025) and they have server me very well. Dreambox 7025 is a set top box with dual DVB-C/T/S tuners (or one can also mix them) although, I never have had 2 tuners inside the box as it has not seemed to be necessary. They run with Linux and have a frontend called enigma2.
I rarely watch "Live TV" - I usually record my shows and then watch the recordings, this way I can skip the commercials and stop watching if I need to leave and then keep watching rest of the show when I get back. Recording has several options:
- You can select recording to start immediately on the channel you are on and select it to end after current show automaticly, enter duration in minutes or set it to record infidently (till you run out of space). You can also stop any of these recordings when you want.
- Timers list: you can add timers with various options to record shows of your choice, some of these options is that you can set recording timer to renew itself daily, weekly, monthly, and so on..
- There's a smart application that you can give conditions (time, channel, weekday, name of the show or part of the name) and it automaticly adds timers which is excellent, sometimes there's a change in schedule of the tv channel so my show is not going to be aired in same time it was on last week - or my show has not been aired in 6 months and now they got a new season, I don't need to know this as the software notices that it's on again and automaticly records it. Perfect.
I can also record (with single tuner) multiple channels with DB7025 at the same time. Tuner is capable of doing this for every channel in same bouquet - my favourite bouquet has 4 or 5 channels so in theory I could have recording on all those channels at same time.
There are also lot of other interesting specs-- but I just posted the ones that are most important for me. Dreambox also is very expensive and does not support so many formats, so it's not that well suitable as a media player. There's possibility to stream VLC from computer, but that's not a good since I need to make a playlist on my computer and computer must be turned on so I can watch a movie from that device.. And it's also a awful lot of work.
There was a storm in December 2011 that caused electrical problems and other DB 7025 just happened to die. Also second DB7025 also suffered of this, propably memory banks got damaged as it has slowed down significantly, is not so stable any more and.. Well it's been since then in a daily use, but using it is like walking in the floor that has been covered with glue. So a good reason to look for new stb..

I have no experience on any android device. My phone is from apple and once I had android phone in my hand but I wasn't able to get keylock of it as propably since I am iphone user, that android phone was way too difficult
Let's get on with the story and go to the questions..
1) Cannot find any information about features of HidTV application. Very low amount of screenshots and no youtube videos of it available as well. What actually can this program do? Is there a teletext viewer included? Can you make your own channel lists (so called favourite lists)? Can you record to harddisk inside the box? I recall seeing a screenshot that listed time shifting capability? What kind of options does Hidtv give for recording (compare to options on DB7025, does it have what db has, does it have more or something better)? Is there EPG? What can you do in EPG, can you set a recording directly from there for chosen show? Can you add specific program as keyword to list of programs that are going to be recorded?
2) usb dvb-t dongle seems to come with a remote. Am I forced to use that remote when Hidtv is on or can I use 2.4G remote that comes with the box to change channels and do what ever hidtv is capable of doing.
3) is USB dvb-t dongle with HidTV application capable of recording 2 shows in same bouquet at same time, or can you watch another channel on same bouquet while recording abother?
4) If there's a schedualed recording support.. Does HidTV need to be on all the time for that to work, or can I go surfing web or watch movie from dlna or youtube or do something else?
4) People here have told this is a bad player for media player purposes? Where is the problem? Is it not capably of displaying for e.g. divx/xvids with srt/sub formatted subtitles? Is it not capable of displaying them from DLNA? Isn't android pretty "open" so I guess there has to be software available that can handle dlna better or is this kind of action a no go?
5) UI for TV purposes. Some pictures I've seen have a desktop like screen and some have a UI. Geniatech advertises: Enjoy multi user interfaces, Android default UI, simple media player UI, customized user-friendly UI and 3D UI. Is there anything as the "desktop view" is not supposed to be on my tv
6) Some similar android stb's advertise that as an alternative remote controller, you can use your iphone or android phone. Can this be done on Geniatech EnjoyTV (atv3000) as well? What is covered and what is not - can I control choosing TV channels and volume control? What about media player features?
7) Is there any cons and pros that you'd like to tell to the new user? Remember; I have no experience in Android OS.. Should I buy the device with dvb-t dongle or try to save money and buy something else?
