Help Genuine voice control

I'm new to the Android world (G4) having always had iPhones. Can the G4 be controlled by voice from lock screen (like Siri).
Voice mate does not seem to work.
I used this feature a lot to voice dial in the car and feel frustrated that the G4 can't do the same.

You can do this with Google now, maybe it's not on by default?. If not go to Google now go to settings then voice set up the ok Google detection then check mark the from any screen and from lock screen detection. It should work after that. I hope this helps.

Thank you, it still doesn't want to work. Have taken screen lock off for now but will keep trying. Thanks for your help

You should be able to say "OK Google" and the phone should do what you ask. If you have a lock screen on, you'll need to enter the pin/code/password first.
