Help Gereral Question.

I've Motorola Moto X play running android 5.1.1. I've learned many useful stuff in the AF & equally follow them. I know there is a separate section for posting the question related for Moto X play as this is a general question regarding android I posted my question here instead & felt I've not gone something against Forum Rule.
I care about my android phone & never want it be sluggish/laggy in performance. I notice many friends just hitting the recent key & wipe the recent apps from the list. So, my question is that performing such action will actually speed up the operation? Should I care about it or leave as it is?

Leave it as is. Recent versions of Android, especially 5.x, do a very good job of managing their resources without user intervention.
