Get lost data back from Android 4.4 KitKat update

Was your phone and contacts synced with Google? If so your contacts should be in your Google account. Was voice mail provided by your carrier, i.e. Sprint, or was it some other service. Your voice messages might still be on their servers, although they might expire once they're read. SMSs are stored within the system area, and root is required to get at the file they're stored in, if it's still there.

I got my contacts for google, what i was hope for is to recover my text messages that was on my phone before update. Sprint is my service.

A factory reset will clear the user data from the phone. This includes the email and sms databases. Unfortunately, if they weren't backed up to either the sd card or off the phone, they're gone. :( Sorry.

I find it reprehensible that a Sprint Rep would factory reset a phone that has been in use without first asking if there was anything that would need to be saved on it.

With Android 4.2 and later, the user storage volumes are virtualized and accessed via MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). There are no data recovery programs that I know of that could find files under those circumstances. And, since the phone was reset, those data sectors were probably already overwritten, so even if it could find the files, they'd be unrecoverable.
