Get the track ball to light up?

So a guy I work with has a Droid Eris and the ball will light up when he has a missed call or a text. Is there a way to get the Hero (sprint) to do this?

Also it seems the phone has two lights on the front?
I have only seen the red/green light, light up.
what is the other light for?
 
I dont know about the trackball or the fact that you have two lights. I have one light that changes two different colors. Usually red/orange when i get a new message or its charging and green when my phone is fully charged.
 
As for the trackball, on the HTC site they showed that feature in advertising the phone but it doesn't seem to be an option.
 
the Eris and the Hero.. are the same phone.. with different skins... right????

As far as I know they are they same phone, so you would think they should do the same things. Ihave looked all over and have not been able to find a setting for the track ball to light up.
 
Yeah which kinda sucks, I would love it if the TrackBall Light worked for my txt msges, I find it "cool" @.@
 
i have found a solution..
If you use "handcent"

It has an option to sent the trackball to blink
but only up to 1 min!

i have set it.. but I can not get it to work.. anybody know how to get this to work??
 
sorry i didnt even now about android untill i bought my hero but im sure glad i did but they still should have done it i dont see why they didnt
 
I just tried the Handcent way to get the ball to light up, but it did not work.

There really should be an app or something for this.
 
well i have a hero and my girlfriend has the eris. her trackball lights up with calls and messages. also when she is on a call her screen turns off automatically. i want my phone to at least turn the screen off when im on a call.

Download Proximity sensor from the market. It works!

Hmmm... My Hero's screen fully turns off while I am on a call? I have had my phone for a little over two weeks now. How long have you had yours?
 
Can't remember for sure, but I think you can set the screen timeout for calls through the settings. There's another thread about the trackball (changing colors) I'm sure someone's already working to see if the Hero shipped with a multi-color LED for the trackball.
