Getting an Admire without service.

Hi I've been looking to get an android powered mp3 player for my sons and anything it looks like the best deal would be to get an Admire from metro and just never get service. I just want to make sure it will work without being activated. I know i've used android devices without service but I've also seen some that on first startup or after a factory reset you couldn't get past the initial setup without service. If anyone can confirm that it works fine without service that would be great. Also any opinions on how well this phone will work for what I want or if you can think of anything better would all be appriated.

youll be fine with an admire as an mp3 player, for that get a ipod nano...the sound in the admire sucks

Thanks. Actually the mp3 aspect is secondary what the kids really want is something they can play games likes Angry birds on, plus having Netflix, Email, music, an alarm and a camera. Thats why I need something with android or at least an Ipod touch.
