Help Getting an Epic soon.. question about battery life

Thinking about getting an Epic from eBay (looking through various auctions to make sure I get one with a clean ESN, etc). However, I understand that battery life may be an issue. I've read the how to improve battery life sticky (Unweaving the Rainbow: How to Improve Battery Life for the Samsung Epic 4G) & plan on doing it once I receive the phone.

My question is.. I want to get a Zagg skin (& screen protector) but I also wouldnt mind getting a Mugen 3200 mah extended battery. However I'm not a fan of the added bulge & weight of the Mugen battery, battery life is more of a concern for me. Should I play around with the stock battery & if pleased, get a Zagg skin, or just get a Muegen battery when I get the phone?

I have a Seidio extended battery and can honestly say that it helps a TON and with what I would consider an acceptable amount of bulge/weight.

How much would you be using the phone and what would you be using it for? How long are you looking to go between charges?

Well I wake up at 4am for work, travel an hour, and work 10 hour shifts, then come back home around 7 pm. I use my phone a lot more than most people, play games a ton, around 100 txts a day, and much more that kills battery fast. I'm using an lg optimus s now and one day I used it so much it died around 2 pm! I'm really considering a 3200 mah extended battery. Just seeing other peoples' suggestions =)

I would suggest that you pick up an extended battery for that kind of use! Either Mugen or Seidio or.....

Best of luck!

Cool I think I'll pick up a Muegen then. One more question - does having an extended battery effect how the battery life bar looks on the phone? Like is it still accurate with how the phone displays how much battery life is left or does it only work with the stock battery?

The seidio one registered fine on mine. I can't speak for if this is the norm or if the Mugen will be any different.

I apologize for the double post. I've changed my mind and think I will be going with Seidio instead. From reading prior posts by you, Kelmar, as well as this thread, you have a seidio battery and know much about it. I plan on getting a 3000 mah.. what would be the best website to get one from and are there any promotional discounts going on? I plan on buying it very soon (sometime this week or next week). Thanks!

I think you might not even need an extended battery unless while you're working, you're texting or playing games. And should you really be texting while you're working? Hmm? :P

While it's not in use, put it in airplane mode, keep the display off and I don't see why you can't get a full day out of it.

I'm sure Seidio has some discount codes (they always do). Try PMing seidioseidio and asking them if there are any current codes?

As far as the best, that's kind of a toss up. There are advantages to buying directly from Seidio but there are other advantages to getting it at Amazon or anywhere else that carries it. Your best bet may be to see which one you feel most comfortable purchasing through.

I don't think any of us can be the judge of what he is allowed to do while working or not. He may work for a company that allows such behavior, he may work for a company that develops cell phone games, he may be self-employed, etc.... Sometimes I use my Epic for HOURS on end at work and other times it sits on my desk in my office and other times it hangs out on my holster or in my pocket (all actions are within the range of rules and policies that I have created for myself and my staff). We simply do not know and cannot make that decision for him. :)

Airplane mode, IMO, defeats the purpose of having the phone on you as you cannot receive any calls/texts nor make any. I think it would be just as well to keep it turned off at that point. But I agree, if it's in airplane mode or turned off, it should last him all day no problem.

Kelmar, you agree with me then that Kenneth196 is a total slacker, right? Kidding. What are your thoughts on Juice Defender?

Eh... I prefer to toggle my settings manually. Some users swear by it and love it.

Kind of like cars, I prefer manual transmission, others love automatic transmission. Neither is bad but it just comes down to your preference. :)
