Getting DHD next week any tips?

Hi

I will be getting my DHD on Monday, never had a smart phone before and was wandering if anyone has any tips I can adopt to get the most from it straight out of the box?

And any must have apps or games etc?

And how resistant to scratches is the screen? Should I buy a screen protector?

I also want to use my headphones from my Sony Ericcson walkman phone so was planning buying 3.5 jack ext cable to plug them into since they have that dodgy sony adapter that drives me mad. Will the radio still work or do I need to buy a special cable that will also act as an attena

Cheers

Read any posts on this forum that looks interesting, and maybe read some reviews on the net. There you should pick up some tips.

The DHD is my 1st smart phone also, I am addicted to it, personnaly think its the best phone ive had.

some apps I like are
* dropbox (good to share files but maybe not personal files)

* es file explorer (share files with devices on the network i send and copy files from my laptop and network drive, u can also view pics , music, videos via this software)

* its really easy to connect your phone to mail, myn is connected to msn

* g tunes, download free music to your device

Don't have loads of widgets running ontop of live wallpaper. Otherwise your battery will drain suoerfast.

G Tunes is a must if you don't mind piracy ;)

Beejive IM, I find its the best IM for iPhone and Android.

Angry Birds.

you might get people telling you to get app killers (closes running apps), I personnaly say dont bother, I had it at started but then removed it, and I think its not needed

Last.fm is amazing. You can run iplayer on this phone, no need for the crappy fm radio. Also Winamp has a connection to internet radio.

Thanks for all the tips. Can anyone tell me if the screen will scratch easily and recommend getting a screen protector?

cheers

Don't really know if the screen will scratch easily but screen protectors cost like 3 pounds from ebay, and some come with a case. Yes I would recommend one

Do the cheap screen protectors go on easily as any bubbles under the screen would annoy me. And are the protectors scratch proof and would they leave a residue if replacing them?

Do the cheap screen protectors go on easily: Yes + I have no bubbles

would they leave a residue if replacing them: I have replaced one once already and nope no residue was left on screen

are the protectors scratch proof: I dont think they are, but to be honist I dont no, of anyone knows or finds a scratch one please post link here

I have mine for over a month without a screen protector on, and there is not one indication of any scratches. I've had it in my pocket with keys, coins, and whatever else you could think of. It's not Gorilla glass, but it is glass, and the natural scratch resistance of glass in general is present. It's as tough as a window. Given enough abuse I'm sure you can scratch it, but in everyday use I don't find a need for a protector.

Hi. First thread, please be be gentle... :-)
Had my DHD for 6 weeks now. Love it. Only the very poor loud-speaker lets it down. Sat-Nav mode with noisy kids is not a good mix.
Can highly recomend these screen protectors...

Vikuiti? screen protector DQC160 for HTC Desire HD

Not cheap, but my last one lasted 3yrs on my old phone. Very resistant to scratching & totally clear. Installed as per instructions & mine has no bubbles whatsoever. Couple of mates have bought them after swearing my HD had no procector on.

Must-have apps...dont know, I'm still new to this Android mullarkey myself. :-)
A very clever Electronics chap at work has just bought one & has it talking to his TV/Hi-Fi at home. A set of earplugs for the constant..."Put that thing down when I'm talking to you..." from the missus perhaps.

Hi, basically same question (sorry for hijacking thread)

My hd was supposed to be delivered to my workplace today, but the bad weather has delayed so hopefully tomorrow:(

I am upgrading from the htc hero which I love so am familar with most things bar rooting etc, way over my head

Anyways, wondering are the basics the same as using the hero or is there anything I should know when I start setting it up

Thanks in advance:)
