Help getting duplicate text messages

I seem to be getting duplicate text messages. I'm using the Handcent messaging after installing the gingerbread update. I think I had that problem before and there was a way to stop that by doing something with the standard messaging, but I don't remember and can't seem to find anything here.
Is there a way to fix that? How?

This happened to me right after I updated with the stock messaging app, but it hasn't happened since. Did you try restarting or reinstalling the app?

Go to stock messaging app > message settings > uncheck notifications
