Help Getting "Message expired or not available" toast message

On my girlfriends Moto X, for the past 2 hours its shown a toast notification saying "Message expired or not available". I've deleted all of her message threads thinking it could be a bad MMS but it is still happening. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Any and all help is appreciated!

I force stopped the Messaging application and cleared the cache and the notification immediately went away.

Next step ... Wipe Cache Partition deleting all temporary files.

Next step try running in Safe Mode disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them.

Are you talking about the davlik cache in recovery? Or a different way? And can it even be cleared because she's hesitant on letting me root her phone too.

You get to it through recovery. The key presses vary from one model to another. You do not need to be root-ed. It is a good idea to patricianly wipe it because it can become contaminated overt time. It only has temporary files. I wipe cache part ion on my un-root-ed Droid Turbo every Saturday.
