ok I'm rooted got titanium and Tom manager, now i am downloading [ROM][GPL][STABLE] aospMod v0.9.9.2 | AOSP
2.2.1 (Froyo) and the gapps. first backup with titanium then copy the zips to root folder boot to recovery. once in recovery nandroid backup then wipe data and davik folders then i flash the rom if I'm missing anything please let me know i am trying to make myself as familiar as possible with the steps
i feel much more comfortable if i can memorize the whole process

thanks to everyones posts about rooting and flashing been reading for a few hours now
 
alright well like i said its rooted tethering works...im on my laptop now trying to see wtf im missing here i backed up with TB now i have rom manager and all it will do when i click flash ClockworkMod recovery is the little grey bar at the top looks like a progress bar for a second then goes back to a solid bar

if i try any other option it says you must have clockworkmod recovery installed! install rom through rom manager first and then i will click install and nothing happens tethered or not

ive searched on google to see if i can find another write up but nothing i read is telling me whats wrong ive uninstalled and then reinstalled several times rebooted and still nothing

like i said i know im missing something and im gonna bet its something simple that im just overlooking time and time again any help is appreciated ty
 
Ok lets step back a bit, you rooted your phone and you do have SU app in the app drawer?? Now do you have Rom manager in your app drawer ?? If yes then open RM and click on the top where is says flash recovery, then chose your Phone (Hero CDMA) then it should say Recovery successful, if not let us know. Then if you still have an issue we will make you flash an alternative recovery. ;)

yes su app is there yes rm is there

when i start up rm it says asking for su access its been allowed but when I click on flash clockworkmod recovery it doesn't do ANYTHING well there is a gray bar with the app name that looks like the address bar for stock browser but goes back solid like no questions or anything...also i have not had a file explorer let me have root access i have been using astro pro and have tried a few others but nothing is working
 
In the RM try flashing alternative Ra Recovery, let me know if that works

error while downloading from server please make sure that you have a stable internet connection (yes tethered and stable) and that your sd card is inserted and has free space (how much do i need)
 
Something is off here, what version UI Rom are you on, What program did you use to root your phone ?? and thirdly go to menu/Settings? SD card and Phone and tell me what it says for Total Space and available space

Avail. space 1.62gb
Internal phone storage
Available space 61.28mb
 
OK and in your app drawer you are sure you have the SU app correct, click on it in the app drawer and let me know if it shows you apps and says it is up to date?? then do this, uninstall Rom Manager and go back to the market and try downloading it again

i am 100% SU app is there
SU info
superuser version b2.3.6.1 database version 5
SU binary v original tap to check for update (tap then it checks then says su is up to date)
 
OK now uninstall RM and then install it again

is there somewhere i can manually download the recover image for me hero and then put it in the folder it needs to be in?
 
OK sounds like you don't have internet connection, try opening a browser and let me if you can browse the web

ive got internet not a problem there i use opera mini and it loaded the ney york times web site a site that i have never been to so not cached...also like i said before i am tethered to my laptop RIGHT now thats how im replying quickly....im sorry i know this has got to be a PITA, hell it is for me lol
 
Yes I can give you a file to load RA but you cannot get internet connection so you can connect from terminal Emulator as you cannot download it from the market, and to do it from ABD I don't have the now to go through that right now as I am at work
