I know I know I am late to the evo party.
I won it on ebay for 120. It is rooted.
What should I do first. I am coming from an LG optimus (ugh) and looking forward to a more powerful phone.
Any apps to recommend, any thing I can do since it is rooted....

Thank you in advance-

:o

Welcome to the both of you!!!
First thing I would recommend to a newly rooted EVO user is to do a nandroid, get titanium backup to backup your relevant apps, and flash a custom ROM!!!
Do you know what ROM is currently on the phone?

Instructions for ANYTHING you need to do can be found here in the life after root section:

You can root an updated EVO, but it is much harder to do that the previous methods.
Root guide is here:

I have moved this thread to the rooting section where more of us with rooted EVO's will see it :D

i tryed this, but it keeped telling me that my handset is not supported. i have an HTC evo 4G 2.3.5 baseband 2.15.00.12.19 build 4.67.651.3 cl239674

Were you using the guide next to #2 that goes with your 2.15 HBoot? Rooting for this HBoot is much easier.

I have the sprint stock rom, but it is rooted. I am looking to get it backed up, but not too quick to you know...flash a rom yet.

kinda leary, new toy etc..

where does it say this? the HTCdev method should work with what your phone has. just follow the guide that was linked earlier.

i would read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

it has a ton of info that you should know including what is a nandroid backup and how to do one.

Rule #1 for a newly rooted user....Get Amon RA 2.3 or above installed as your recovery (I prefer v 2.3)

Rule #2 is ***flashing lights**** make a nandroid backup ***flashing lights***

Rule #3 is flash MikG 3.11
