Root Getting Rid of Sense

I don't like Sense. I never have. This phone's good enough where I will consider putting up with it, but I still don't like it. It looks like a cartoon.

So, how hard will it be to get rid of it, or put Holo back?

I am not a developer (yet), so I make no assumptions, and I place my learning ear towards you, developers. :)

You can always use a different launcher, but that doesn't get rid of it it just uses something else.
You would have to use a senseless rom to really get rid of it (cm9, aokp, etc).

"Senseless." Ha. I like that :)
Hopefully CM9 development will be accelerated a bit with the combination of CM9 for the Evo 3D already being worked on, and this phone providing some official ICS code to work with.

You can install any launcher over Sense and set it as the default launcher, and you're only left with the framework. The Sense framework for GB was better than AOSP in a number of ways, and in ICS it's not all that different.

You can even disable the Sense launcher after you install your custom launcher and disable all the Sense-specific widgets (like FriendStream) because they won't work on any launcher other than Sense.

All-in-all it takes less than 5 minutes if you just don't want the launcher. If you want CM9, well...that's going to be a bit, as toastcfh is the only CM member that I know of that's working on the Evo 3D. And he's spotty with updates. There are a number of CM9 kangs, though.

couldnt you just remove the framework, then replace it with the stock ics framework (changed to fit the evo of course). And then replace the launcher with the ics launcher too?

Not easily, no. The kernel uses the framework, too. So you would have to replace the kernel with one that works with AOSP (Android Open Source Project - read stock Android). And, unfortunately, there are no AOSP kernels (that I know of) that can support all of the hardware. Typically you'll lose 3D and 4G, at the minimum. Some have tempermental bluetooth and wifi issues. The devs have been trying to build kernels from scratch, and that's why. HTC won't put their source out on htcdev, like they have in the past.

So if you like 4G, 3D, and bluetooth, keep the Sense framework and replace the launcher. The perceivable difference is small and the phone will work 100%.

you can always use cm9 for the sprint evo 3d. the only exception is no 4g and no mms until someone hacks it.

Oh. I might would actually like that. In my area there's no 4G, i always delete bluetooth, and i have no use for 3D. But i would never ask any dev to try to build a kernel for me

You don't need to. Make a backup and flash cm9 from the sprint 3d. It will work. Most if not all sprint 3d roms will work
