Getting rid of the Chinese language in my phone

I bought a new RedMei phone in 2022, just before I left China (yes, poor planning on my part). It is not compatible with any services in the US, but it is still a good micro computer - can play movies, use wifi to access the net, etc. Recently I have read of the possibility of "time bombs" or "bugs" being hidden in Chinese phones, routers, etc that can be access remotely to shut a device down. I would like to know if it is possible to root this phone and then reinstall a completely English version of Android on it? or even some other OS? I am 99% sure that I will never be using this for the telephone features.

you will most likely need to root the phone, if you are having issues with it being a chinese phone. what is the exact model of your phone?

Might be possible, but you have to check if your particular Redmi device can be rooted, and if there's a suitable non-Chinese custom ROM available for it. BTW my sister has a Redmi phone, but it's a British version bought from Vodafone, which did actually work when she came to China last month.
