Help Getting same text multiple times

Hello, I'm using the stock messenger and I had thought it was just fine. But I recently found out that my phone occasionally sends out the same message up to 10 times. When I found this out I asked a friend if this ever happened and his response was "yeah your phone does that" -he was referring to the 2-3 repeated messages he'll get from me.

My question: Is there anyway to fix this?

Sometimes when someone texts me I get it 3 or 4 times. It happens when I talk to people with Android/iPhone on Sprint/AT&T so I think it's either a Verizon issue or a DX2 issue. Is anyone else having this problem?

Also, I want to add that they don't always come right away. Sometimes there is a 10-45 minute delay.

If you are using another texting app like Handcent you might not have disabled the default texting app.

I'm using the stock SMS application. I did a search online, and I'm not the only one with this problem. I hope they fix it when they update to 2.3.

I'm experiencing this with and I have Go SMS downloaded. I first thought it was Go SMS but it just keeps happening.

I was getting multiple texts and I went into Handcent and set it to be the default messaging app and this seems to have fixed it for me.

This just started happening to me last night. I use Handcent, but I can't find how to set it as default from within the app. I have set it to notify and turned off notifications in the stock messaging app.

Pretty annoying problem, though.

Once in a while, when I try to send a txt message to someone, they end up getting multiple copies of it. Likewise, I sometimes get multiple copies (the worst was four in a row once) of txt messages that others send to me.

The guy at the Verizon store told me that this is a known problem when either attempting to send txt messages from or receive txt messages on an Android phone from some other platform. Is that true....that it's a known problem, and that Google is working on it? If so, can someone please give me a link?

I saw at least two other threads on this problem out there...
http://androidforums.com/droid-supp...71905-messages-being-sent-multiple-times.html
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x2/365163-getting-same-text-multiple-times.html

...but neither contained a resolution for the OP.

Any help?

I've heard of this before, but the only time I actually saw this happen was when I used an app besides the stock app.

On my DROID, it happened a couple of times, and it was always from folks on other networks with other non-Android devices - but it happened so infrequently that I never explored it.

Plus, I now use Google Voice for all SMS (they cannot do MMS - yet), so I rarely use the stock app anymore.
