Help Getting the date displayed on my main screen

I am trying to get just the date displayed on my main screen and do not know how I can do this. Is there an app or is there a setting in the phone? The date is only displayed on the screen once the phone is turned on. Once you unlock it it goes to the main screen and there is no date. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

Theres calendar Widgets you can use but my recommendation is purchase either "Beautiful Widgets" or "Weather and Toggle widget" they're like $2.00 and some change @ the android market
