ghost data ?

Hey

I've learned that the HTC Desire has 130MB of internal storage. However, according to appbrain, the total size of all my apps is 73MB, and some of the largest are even on the SD Card. Why do I only have 13MB free on my internal storage ? And before you ask, the Facebook data is 3.21MB and my contact storage data is 4.88MB and the dialer storage data is 4.52MB.

Is there anything I've missed ?

app caches maybe

100mb of space doesn't mean you can install one hundred 1mb apps. Once installed, apps need more space than the .apk.

I have 24 apps stored in my internal memory, uses up around 63mb of internal storage, total internal memory shows as 147mb, so take off the 63mb for my apps I should still have around 80mb of storage left but at the moment I have about 25mb of storage left, so what's happened to the other 55mb worth of storage I should have left ?

I have cleared cache etc.... but can't free up any more space

Is "Dalvik cache" something special and invisible ? I've checked every app, and everyone of them says "Cache 0.00B".

hm, okay. It says "Applications 116.7MiB". So the mebibytes that Appbrain doesn't notice, must be invisible cache then ?

Thanks, I checked, however it didn't help me much. So, basically, the dalvik cache takes up a huge amount of space, and can't be wiped unless the corresponding apps are wiped ?

^ lol

Hm, if you can be bothered and are interested in having more apps installed, you can try rooting your phone. This will allow you to muck about with the dalvik cache, and force apps to store dalvik cache in the sd card (will depend on what rom you're using), you can even trick the phone into thinking it has a gig or two of internal memory if you like.

It is time consuming, but there's a lot of options out there for you :)
