Root Ginger Villain 0.5

FYI, this is PURE AOSP. No Richard Trip / Cyanogenmod additions.

When CM goes to Gingerbread, defrost will.

But yeah, if you want a clean, unmodified and working gingerbread rom, GV is the way to go, but my guess is you'll miss what you are accustomed to in Defrost

Yeah i did read that it wasn't CM based. If i'm honest i've only ever used DeFroST amd i'm just bored and want to flash something or mod something lol so figured having a trial on Gingerbread was the way forward.

As soon as a CM add gingerbread i'll probably switch back but just fancy a change but want something that's at least relatively stable with good battery etc

Right well, got it up and running. First impressions are very good seems to be noticeably quicker/smoother transitions, could be a bit of a placebo effect, but apps seem to be opening faster too :D Only thing i am missing already is my HTC IME mod keyboard, wonder if it supports 2.3 yet...

Will give some more in depth feedback after i've played around for a few hours

Thats a good point.

If you install it manually, don't forget you need the clicker apk too.

Yeah HTC IME consists of 2 .apks

The HTC IME Hi22.apk or whatever its called, and also clicker. Clicker is for the calibration etc.

If you open up system/app on your defrost rom, you will see both in there. But since GB is not HTC, clicker will not be there as default.

I used GV 0.5 for the afternoon yesterday (restored to DeFrost in the evening). I think something I restored from Titanium might have interfered with it, because I lost the screen-off animation :( But can confirm that the CM torch is working nicely, though you only get a stand-alone power widget, not the notification area one (which is one of the nicest features of DF for me).

Overall it was smooth and stable, and seemed perfectly usable as a day-to-day ROM. I did miss some of the extra features and configurations of DF, which is the main reason I switched back, but am tempted to flash back when I next have a bit of time.

Only thing that didn't work for me was some of the battery status displays (e.g. ask Spare Parts to give battery stats and it FCs, and attempts to use other apps to look at usage history failed).

On the plus side, the two finger rotate in Maps did work, though it took a little practice to reliably rotate rather than zoom.

woohoo as always dan, your a legend :D Working absolutely fine now, if you haven't already, i'd definitely reccomend having a go with Ginger villain, i can't say there's anything i'm particularly missing at the moment apart from the little mods i.e. my font changes, circle battery mod, colour icons etc but they'll all come with time i guess.

Ah I'm just going to wait. I have a complicated set up as it is so not ready to mess with it :)
