Root Ginger Villain: System Cache almost full

Sorry if this is a noob q:
My System Cache is almost full (only 500 kb left of 40 MB) How can I either extend my System cache or free some space?... Tried some differen't cache cleaners but it didn't help.

(Not even sure of what System Cache is for)

It's for downloads. You can wipe it via recovery

It can also be manually wiped using a file manager.

Yes it can. Although I did have some dodgy files that looked like harlequins. I couldn't delete them even with root explorer.

I tend to use recovery (as annoying as it is to do) now.
