I will preface this message with the following. The CM7 Gingerbread ROM is NOT intended for beginners or for people that aren't familiar with ODIN or some of the inner workings of the flashing process. CM7 does NOT install like other Samsung ROMs you may have flashed in the past.

Also note that CM7 still has some bugs, and is not intended for those that rely on their phones 100%; YET.

Before you consider this ROM, please read over all of the materials, watch the video, and get all of the materials together FIRST.

[No, I'm not affiliated with the devs for this ROM at all, just offering my opinions]

Enjoy:

[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for Captivate (Gingerbread 2.3.3) - xda-developers

I highly recommend to those feeling adventuresome! First time my phone has given me an evil grin in a while... =)

I haven't gained the courage to try it yet - I'm familiar with the process, just not daring enough to try it - YET. I rely too heavily on my phone for day-to-day use.

Perhaps soon....

i downloaded this at the 3/04 update, loved it at first then got a little tired of the bugs. i flashed it back after using a different kernel with the rom. but after a short time and 1 more nightly update i couldn't stay away. a few bugs/lag but nothing that will keep me away after random shut offs because wifi sleep was fixed. im oc it @ 1.2 hz and uv with TheEscapist's kernel no bugs nothing bad. cant wait to have this thing oc'ed more and a bit more stable... will be amazing but as of now im not leaving it.

I tried it and really was surprised at how many little features it had. HOWEVER, the Camera still has a ton of bugs and some of the little stuff just made certain things irritating. If a text came through and I checked my notification menu, the text would automatically clear before I could even select it. Also, after dialing a number, the phone would basically go to sleep... It would still dial, but let's say you dialed the wrong number, instead of quickly hitting END, you would have to wait for the phone to wake back up with the power button... annoying.

That and there is something still "British" about it - A lot of words are British-ized still. I noticed as well that a lot of apps like Ebay kept sending me to their world-wide counterparts - For some reason, I couldn't get to ebay.com; it kept sending me to ebay.co.uk...

Odd.

Once the bugs are out, I'll definitely be back to 2.3.3.

I'm scared... I have Cog 3.04 running like a total champ and I use my phone for everything, including work e-mails... I think I'll let this one hang out for a month or two... hhahaha

Probably wise - especially if you're used to Cog - once the bugs are out, I'll definitely be back as 2.3 seems feature-packed.

Though I would love to try the CM7 my Darky's 9.3 is doing Super and Joel is working on a new ROM based on JS7 so I am going to wait. Now if it takes a while and the Bugs on CM7 worked out fairly soon I may give it a try.

Decided not to wait for Darky to get his ROM 2.3 going so I Flashed CM7 yesterday,Loving it so far with only a few bugs.

Yeah, I switched to Serendipity after CM7 and I'm really missing the CM7 features and colors...

It looks like I may go back to 2.3.3 here in a bit.....

I'm on the fence here, I'd like to try Serendipity and CM7. Serendipity sounds more stable at the moment but CM7 sounds like more fun as its the new kid on the block. Its awesome to have the options though, thanks to these developers we can choose from several different great ROMs.

To be honest, I don't care for Serendipity. I tried it simply because everyone alwats touts how great it is, but I guess I don't see it - I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't give me much of a wow factor. Its all personal preference.

CM7 definitely has the wow feeling, even with the few bugs it has.

As a total noob who had never flashed a rom onto their phone before, I found this all pretty easy to do, actually. I didn't run into any issues, the instructions were easy to follow and I'm in love with my phone now.

That said, I too ran into the bug with the screen going black/locking as soon as I place a call. The camera did crash immediately the first time I opened it, but hasn't since.

Scratch that- the screen is no longer going black/locking when I place calls.

Check under Settings and then Call Settings. There is a "Keep screen awake" setting.
