root will block the update, atleast it did for me when i was running root and 2.2 came out. it will notify you but nothing will happen

So if my phone is rooted, I will not get the update notification? or I will get the notification, but it will not install? Just a bit confused reading this thread as I thought if I ran the ROM to get back to the stock 2.2 I would get the OTA when it came out. Has anybody that is rooted received the OTA and just let it run? Has anybody even received the OTA yet at all rooted or not?

Clockwork recovery will block the OTA from installing (you will still get the notification). You can flash the stock recovery if you really want the official ota then flash back clockwork and superuser after the ota installs if you are s-off. IMO will be much easier to just flash the rooted gingerbread rom over at xda.

Hello, have not posted in a while. I am running unrevoked3 on my DInc 2.2 with the base stock rom. I really only use it for tether and TIBackup. Does anyone have a link to the XDA or any stock ROM of Gingerbread 2.3? If so what is the best process for me to install the ROM Gingerbread on my phone. Will my phone remain rooted? Is there any step by step instruction guide for this situation or a link that talks about it. Thank you in advance.

Here is a link to the latest ROM 2.3.4 already rooted and there are two patches on the op with a patch for the gps nag and a patch boot sound. All three of these just need to be put onto your sdcard and you can either load from within Clockworkmod or you can boot into recover to load them. You only need to do the Rom itself but you could do the nag patch its optional. The Gps nag only pops up on phone reboot. But that bothers some people.

Rooted official GB rom:

Also want to say again, if you ever have any intention of installing leaked files now or in the future ROOT YOUR DEVICE FIRST (unlock the bootloader). It is very possible root may never be achieved on the incredible again. So once you install a leaked file, you may be stuck with it, unless you have an unlocked bootloader.

So root now if you ever think you will want to mod your phone in any way.

[ROM] Official INC OTA 4.06.605.3 - xda-developers

So I am rooted with S-off. Are there steps to installing this and is this pretty much the base 2.3 update are there any major bugs I should know about. I have never installed a ROM before any tips or things I should do in advance to make it go smoother? Will it wipe my data? Finally how does this differ from. [ROM][9/3/11] Stock OTA 4.06.605.3 (2.3.4) + GPS Nag Removal Script - xda-developers

Thanks again.

Ah gotcha... I am S-OFF and have CWM installed. So it will be blocked then. But I still have not received the notification. So what are most waiting for then? If XDA has the official OTA, why isn't everybody just flashing that? Sorry don't mean to be ignorant, just curious. Are you waiting for somebody to take the OTA and do something different with it?

most people don't want to root so are waiting for the ota.
And honestly some of the people who are rooted just like (feel more comfortable with) the fact they received the update through official means even if it is more trouble. People here will help anyone with whatever way they choose to update.

[ROM][9/3/11] Stock OTA 4.06.605.3 (2.3.4) + GPS Nag Removal Script - xda-developers

I just rooted this build this morning I have unrevoked 3 root and S-off
Everything went very standard.Very easy. Its runs very smooth but you do get the GPS nag screen and the patch will fix that. This is prerooted so no worries about loosing root.
I had the version 4.06.605.2 for two days till I installed this one and I didn't have to wipe anything but Delvic Cache. Just put the Rom on your SD card.Either boot into recovery or use CWM and select install update from sdcard and when it prompts you to backup and wipe do both. If something goes wrong you will have a backup.
Go to XDA web site and read some more to make sure you know what your doing before you start. If you have any doubt that is. Also the Volume up and down is the scroll through menu and the power is select. This for recovery menu.

Ok,I'll bite... What's s-off?

S=off is a protection put in place by HTC to try and keep us away from accessing part of the embedded OS. Stock it's S=On.... which prevents us from writing to parts of the phone.

In order to get s=off, you need to install and run the latest unrevoked program which you can fine here > unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.21

Install that and plug in your phone, then run the program... simple as pi

I haven't really noticed any difference as of yet. Seems the same to me other than one number. Also when I ran the install it took about three seconds so it must be a small difference.

I just uploaded my OTA file to multiupload.com for the guys at XDA. This is the pure file, I haven't run the update yet.

4.06.605.3 update is hitting phones as we type! - Page 7 - xda-developers

They are comparing it to what they already had, so we should know soon if there are any differences.

Todd

I'm interpreting mixed information regarding this OTA file. It seems that some have successfully flashed this, however, when I tried to flash the file (MD5 verified, renamed update.zip) inside CWM 5.0.2.0 via applying update.zip I get the following result:

Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000","11111111", "22222222","33333333","44444444","55555555","66666666","77777777","88888888","99999999","VZW_001") == "t"
Error in sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I apologize ahead of time for my ignorance... there are options in CWM to toggle signature verification and to toggle script asserts. Would toggling these allow the installation to continue?

Is it even possible to apply this update with CWM or do I have to reflash the stock recovery from dougpiston.com to succeed?

I have S-off, with stock rom and SU, with no bloatware frozen. Will the OTA come to me later or because I have CWM installed is it destined to fail?

I know some of these questions (maybe all of them) have already been asked, but I've seen answers to many in both the affirmative and negative. Just hoping for consensus.

Thanks in advance

Has the very update that is currently being pushed to phones been made a flashable ROM? I did know that they made ROMs based off older leaks, but is the latest, final OTA a flashable ROM?

From what I've read over at xda, the rom I linked above is the official rom that has been sent out to a few users.

Yes, the current OTA has been made into a ROM (anything based on 4.06.605.3). However, it was based off a Nandroid. This "should" be as good as being based off the RUU, but I've seen issues in the past.

Sad to report that my 5 week old replacement Incredible has died. The speaker has blown and hopefully when mine gets here it will have 2.2 so I can ROOT it so i can be rooted when I put the 2.3 back on it.

Was it meant to be? Maybe because I said i want 2.2 without a replacement device and nobody can help me. haha.

Will probably get it with 2.3 already on it :)
