Root gingerbread alternative

Nope. GSB is working just great for me, and I prefer so much more vanilla Android over any theming. No disrespect intended, themes always look like they were designed by amateurs. There is always something that looks awkward or just plain wrong. Vanilla rarely does.

I hate to say it but I wouldn't know the difference.

A perfect example is a dock icon that is an image of the words "texts" rather than the messaging icon. I am more quickly able to understand and process a clock that shows 11:47 rather than eleven forty-seven. Though I read a lot and can process text well, this means more to me at a glance than red. I've also seen changes in system fonts that cut off text that should be showing because the replacement typeface isn't spaced the same way as the default.

While Google clearly doesn't have the same attention to these details as Apple does - few technology company do, frankly - Google (and HTC, for their Sense builds) hire pros to graphically design Android.

I flashed it,but haven't messed with it a whole lot yet. The screenshots are maybe of the "honeycream" theme. What I saw looked pretty vanilla-ish.

How's it working for you,BC? Ill have to wait till I get home to play wit it :)

The only flick so far is my battery app flickered and then the phandroid app disappeared off of my home screen.
Also I've noticed the battery seems to be draining pretty quick and is getting hot. I've seen it as much as 107 and it wont charge saying its overheated.
Also I'm running the clock at the stock speed for this rom.

Flashed v1.0 yesterday and flashing v2.0 this morning.:D One thing is I don't see the laggyness with this rom as I do with GSB.:)

i also thot it was a little smoother than GSB. i gotta go to work  ill have to flash v2.0 when i get home.

what *I* mean is the fluidity of sliding the homescreens, opening the app drawer, opening apps, etc. GSB is pretty smooth. i notice the lag the most when i first touch the home screen and try and slide it left or right. it sticks alittle at first, then moves pretty smoothly.

"tastybread" thus far seems a little more fluid. again,im not using the honeycream theam, just the normal vanilla version that is how it boots up.

I've been running the [Nonsensikal v16.1] Froyo [ Cyanogenmod] Black&Blue for a few days now. I've had 5, I absolutely love it. I think I'll keep it for awhile. I also "tweaked my phone, widgets, wallpaper to look exactly as I want, so. I had one that spelled out text, phone, etc. in the dock like doogald spoke of. It IS corny looking.

I thought I heard that Nonsensikal was going to be abandoned by the dev.

It was for awhile. From reading through old posts over in XDA it was abandoned (LOL) but now it's alive again. This 16.1 version was (from what I understand) just released in December. Unless "final release" means he threw this out and is done with it. From reading it looked as if it was let go for awhile, but now brought back and alot of people went to it as they enjoyed the old versions. That's how I read it, but you would probably know more than I on these subjects.

i wouldnt say it was abandoned... 16.1 is a stable release that alot of folks use. i tried it when i first rooted my eris,it worked well.

the developer has gotten a new phone,so he will not be supporting it anymore with updates. it is quite possible that someone else will step up to the plate and continue to support it.

im definately liking it as well as. theoretically,GSB should be a little more stable since its based on a CM7 build for the eris, and not a hero port, like tastybread is.

however,so far tastybread does seem a little smoother for me.

What does this mean given the lack of CM7 (6 or otherwise) support for Eris? Any CM based Eris ROM has to be ported or built using coding initially built for Hero or other CM supported device.

anyhow what are the default setting's on tastybread (VM heap size, JIT, Compcashe ect)? I know its overclocked to 710. Workshed seems to change the GSB setting with every other release. I personally reduce heap size to 24, check lock home in memory, JIT on, Compcache to 18% default, clock 768/245 on demand and install autokiller set to strict. Just wondering if these comparisons are comparing apples to apples. I also wonder how many actually formatted their SD card. I didn't do a recovery or complete format (I left titanium, picture/music folders ect) but I removed a crap load of junk and app folders first.

I WOULD like to try tastybread but for froyo roms to me after tweaking other than looks a 6.1 based rom is a 6.1 rom is a 6.1 based rom, likewise a 6.2 based roms was a 6.2... So far I've tried Tazz and Shed 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 and found the same trend. I'm really skeptical this will be any different and since lag is nonexistant following the tweaks and precursors mentioned above I'm gonna hold off a little while. In fact lag is so non existant I can stand to run live wallpapers full time, something I NEVER did before due to lag.

You still feel the need to use Autokiller even on Gingerbread? It seems to do a pretty good job managing on its own, from what I can tell.

By the way, have you tried the smartass governor? Do you think ondemand is better somehow?

read the first post of worksheds thread. while the eris is not officially supported by cyanogenmod,GSB is based on a build specifically for the eris. its NOT a port.

by contrast, tasty bread IS ported from the hero nightlies.
