Gingerbread coming for the Nexus One

that's gonna be too late then, as there'll already be a better/newer phone that you'll yearn for.

i don't mind being a few months behind the "latest and greatest" phone. i'm late to the n1 club anyway, only had it for 3-4 months. i'd rather have a good phone that works over a sexy phone that looks good on paper, but is buggie and raises my stress level daily. the n1 works for me and i'll wait for something that is a significant step up and is tested out by a few hundred thousand people first. until then, i'm babying my n1 so she doesn't leave me!

I agree. As long as cyanogen doesn't leave the nexus one, he will continue to put out roms for it and my nexus will be just as good as a nexus S as far as I'm concerned.

Interesting...I wonder if there's two version of Gingerbread? The one that's completed (I think) and the one that's to be optimized for the dual core processor.

...or maybe it's a single OS with support for both that's still under tests.

It's just such a bummer when you realize it should have been released on the 8th, or was it 11th...
And knowing it's out there on the nexus, being tested right now.

Gosh i hope it comes quick!

Just saw an update to the DolphinHD browser today. It has fixes for 2.3 Gingerbread!! :)

COME ON GOOGLE!!!!

One OS to rule them all,
One OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them

...Mordor strikes...

I really shouldn't raise a gloomy note but, in years to come as Google Inc continues towards world domination, Android nigh-on wipes out iOS, Symbian, Windoze and RIM and Google does what all large corporations do...

Cheers!

Gingerbread looks ugly what happen to the MAJOR ui improvements google promised???

Ugly? I think it look pretty neat. I am glad we got the black notification bar, goodbye burn in. I thought there would be a major UI over haul also but I would be willing to bet that will come with Honeycomb (3.0). 2.3 sounds like an intermediate update.

You're right the black notification bar is nice but that dock bar with the new icons looks outdated imo. Google promised major ui improvements with Gingerbread that would make skins (sense touchwiz launcherpro etc) irrelevant. It would be nice for a stock android phone to look good out of the box but I guess we'll have to wait a little longer.
