Gingerbread incoming?

Desire Z by the end of June apparently (!!!!!!!!).

think thats more to do with earlier reports saying that the devices will get it in 2nd quarter and some hedging bets by saying end of june, which is the end of that quarter.

3 were going to roll this to their desires end of april but now delayed by a couple of weeks, I think this maybe pushed out as HTC have told them to hold off until unbranded goes 1st, which could mean that we see this real soon.

The fact they were ready to roll out means that they have had the finished article from HTc and then given it their tweaks (as my limited understanding deciphers this)

Im hoping next week, but maybe Im just jonesing for ma gingerbread bad man !!!! lol

Vodafone are rolling out gingerbread for the DHD which is pretty quick after the official version was released by HTC, so I'm hopeful for an update in the next few weeks; HTC seem to be pushing out gingerbread for all their 2.2 devices.

I'm not really expecting anything dramatic to change, but it'll be good to be up to date, almost certainly for the last time though. The Desire still sells, but surely at some point this year the Desire will be off the catalogue as HTC push the Desire S, Incredible S and the Sensation as their flagship Android handsets.

Finally got around to getting the GB update through CyanogenMod. 7.0.3 the other day.
Seems very stable and am loving it so far. Highly recommended for all CyanogenMod users.

Gingerbread update on Vodafone UK

by HTC UK on Monday, 09 May 2011 at 16:10

We know a number of you are frustrated about Vodafone customers receiving the Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire HD ahead of everyone else. In this particular instance, Vodafone UK's variant of the Gingerbread update was approved as part of Vodafone's broader European software approval process and distributed by HTC as part of the European roll-out. We are working closely with all the other UK operators to ensure their HTC Incredible S and HTC Desire HD customers receive the update soon and will confirm a date for roll-out as soon as we can. In the interim, we ask you to please bear with us and would like to thank you for your continued support

Clicked on the HTC link in papa j post. Clicked on one of the comments at random - Andrew James Fannen just after 10pm. HTC UK have responded that the Desire will get the Gingerbread update before the end of June. So hopefully only a few weeks now - though it seems to have been only a few weeks since Christmas! Link below (apologies if it doesn't work - not sure if you can just copy and paste the page url)

According to HTC's fb page, Gingerbread for the classic Desire is going to be by (read near) the end of june now, According to customer service, this update will definitely NOT include any of the sense 2.1/htc hub/sense.com stuff. They said they did plan the sense.com stuff, but not yet,

forgive me for maybe aasking a stupid question but if the desire aint getting the sense update with 2.3 then what on earth are we actually getting in this 2.3 update?

Sense uses a different keyboard anyway. Google are basically adding to android what HTC added to it already.

Just like the leaked rom then. Its a shame really, although it doesn't bother me.

doesn't bother me either....I mean I've heard alot of problems with the HTC hub stuff with the Desire HD the locate thing not working properly an what not..

hell im just waiting till my 16GB card turns up...then partitioning and dumping stuff on that and gonna upgrade to the leedroid gingerbread as long as its stable now

well my prediction for getting 2.3 is up there with the prediction of the end of the world rapture taking place last saturday lol

but ffs HTC, you have had 2.3 for god knows how long now, so what the hell is the hold up ????

I'm no longer convinced we'll see it on the Desire but for what it's worth, a friend of mine got 2.3 on his Incredible S the other day and barely noticed a difference. He does think the battery lasts a bit longer but otherwise there was nothing to see.

you do realise that the 2.3 update for the Desire has been out for a few weeks now? its not the 'official' RUU sent out yet through the update bit but its what we would actually be getting anyway...

and no its not a custom rom that someone has created like oxygen or GV it is the genuine sense 2.3 gingerbread...just google it..its been up on XDA for a lil while..

But you can't flash it as it's a test ROM. I've since made my own ROM out of it and it works fine. No new Sense though, but it is only a test ROM
