Help Gingerbread installation question

How long does the install take? Is there any notification bar? I've downloaded the update, it prompted me with 'Would you like to install the following system software update......?" Giving me the option to install now or Install later. If I choose install now, it doesn't appear to do anything. The pop up just closes. And I stare at the screen like a goof ball expecting something to happen.

This is full battery, plugged into a power out let. and I've rebooted. Any thoughts?
 
it took mine around 5 minutes after the download. i'm not experiencing any of the adverse effects (knock on wood) that many of the others are. typically, you only hear from those negatively effected though.

I deleted the download and tried again. Started to install but then said the downloaded software was corrupted. Maybe third time's a charm
