Help Gingerbread Issue with Charge

I had no issues whatsoever with my Charge loving it. Then this past Sunday when 2.3 was pushed to my phone I noticed an immediate diming in color of the screen I am using the beach living wallpaper and the water turned from a beautiful aqua blue to a blue gray. Then when using the web the autofit page is not functioning at all it does not resize the text to fit the screen and I notice a yellow band around the edge of the screen when resizing text very annoying.

I thought my screen went bad so I took it to Verizon and they sent me another phone after re-installing my APPS No-Led and Fancy Widgets the phone was perfect web pages sized properly for reading and no yellow lines around the edges and the wallpaper was the proper hue. Lo and behold I allow the 2.3 update and the dam phone did the same thing. I wish there was a way to undo 2.3 firmware on my phone. Called Verizon and they told me to come to the store...bummer Anyone else have these issues???

Seen similar reduction in brightness, figured it was part of their improved battery life tricks,. I've also noticed the web page issue a little as well.

I didn't notice any screen dimming on my phone after the update. The yellow-orange at the edge is a "feature" so you know when you hit the edges of a screen scrolling. Does it on the top, bottom, and sides all over the place. Not a terrible thing, just need to understand what it was.

Just an update on battery use. In 10.5 hours of idle use, the phone used 48% of the battery. Yes the phone setting all by it self, with out the GPS or WiFi on, and getting a few e-mails overnight, the phone went from 100% charged to 52%.

The Battery info is:
Cell standby 47%
Phone idle 19%
Android OS 18%
Display 10%
Bluetooth 5%
Android System 2%

Is that better or worse than before? I never leave mine on and not charging overnight because I know I will need a fully charged battery to get my day started.

In fact, I charge my phone whenever I can usually.... I figure batteries are cheap ($15 on eBay) so if I burn one up from excessive charging... oh well.

To be honest, for it to go down 48% in 10 hrs. without you using it sounds like a little excessive... but I think they call this thing the CHARGE for a reason. lol

I did the same basic test on my DC with GB. Overnight in 12 hours with no use and no auto syncing it went from 76% to 70%. Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth were all on. Generally I feel the battery life is better but hard to quantify.

This seems worse, but I noticed an increase battery drainage starting about mid November before the update. Thought it might have been verizon messing with the signal strengths. I only have 3G and get 3 bars, but sometime no data with that strong of a signal.

Maybe the syncing is a larger battery drain than anything else! Interesting test you did.

I have turned off syncing before to conserve battery but usually only for a few hours at a time. Kinda defeats purpose of a smartphone for me if I dont get emails but could be useful when trying to milk it for battery life.

Display used to be the high % user until this latest update. Now my battery drains even with all the apps turned off (via Task Killer) and turning off the display. Used to be able to go all day with only occasional use (2-3 times checking weather and news, e-mail (not answering). Now by noon it is down by 30% of battery. WTH is going on?!!! Is there a setting one can change in "Android OS"?
Thanks,:mad::mad::mad:

There is a power saver mode that is checked on my Charge. I have no issues with the power draining. Have you run the task manager to see what is running?

Can you describe WHERE this power saver mode is? Don't remember seeing one except for a few apps. Would love to check it out.

Hi all,

I joined up just to get involved with this topic. I am a creature of habit and pretty much use my phone the exact same amount every day at the exact times. Before Gingerbread, by Charge would get me from 8am to 12am with a little battery life to spare.

After Gingerbread, it's lucky if it makes it to 6pm. I have changed nothing about the phone except for disabling 4G and switching to 3G. The battery drain is all Gingerbread-related. Before, over 70% of the battery life was used by Display. Now, Cell Standby, Android OS, and Phone idle top the list.

I know, I shouldn't be complaining because the phone is great and 10 hours of life is great blah blah blah, but it was better, and I see no need to accept an "upgrade" that lessens the experience.

Some issues I think are worth noting:
- The battery does have better days than others. None are good, but sometimes the battery seems to drain extra fast with, again, no derivations in usage patterns.
- The phone seems to be running hot sometimes
- I have switched from 4G and used 3G, and that hasn't seemed to help much. This is the only change I've made since getting Gingerbread.

The very reason I got this phone was for its battery life. It used to be amazing. I'm praying that enough people are having this problem that it will be addressed.

Might be a silly response to the screen brightness issue, but I discovered the other day that the brightness was set to the dimmest possible and that the automatic brightness was unchecked. I had it set to auto prior to the update. I checked it and got some instant brightness.

After I turned off everything I could think of and nothing worked. The only thing left was autorotate. I turned it off and the drain stopped! The I turned everything back on except autorotate and the drain did not increase, but remained the normal slow drain I was used to before the gingerbread push. Maybe it was some weird combination or sequence of my actions. Whatever.....I'm happy again.

Well I just got my Droid Charge Saturday and loved it until it took its first update. After that it will not do anything like before the update, the phone just turns it's self off and locks up. Called customer support and they said to take it to store for an replacement phone. I will let you know after today.

BUMMER

That is weird. So you turned autorotate off and then back on and now the drain is 'normal' again?

Well they gave me a new phone said they didn't know what caused it to lock up. So here we go again I just hope she works this time, should I take the update when it ask me to???

I'm surprised it isn't updated yet! YES, I would take the update, 99% of us have gotten it just fine with no issues.

This is the OS the Charge should have come with to begin with.

I took the update and so far all is fine seems to be faster and sharper than before. The first update could of had a glitch in it but this time is looking good.

WOW a NEW phone. They "replaced" my phone but I think it's a refurb. At any rate, it came already updated and they told me they couldn't send me one that didn't have the update.
So....I have the same problems and I suspect there was nothing wrong with the phone I'm returning - except of course, the same update.
I'm now having trouble staying in 4G or 3G in the house - a problem I never had before. Called again and the tech is sending me a new Sim Card and a new battery. Would be weird if the Sim card had some effect - I don't think the battery will except for the fact that I clearly now need a spare battery.

You can add me to the list that have problems after the update. The phone was functioning good with Foyo, no issues. I took the update and for the last week I have been getting the famous popping and crackling during phone calls.
