gingerbread kb apk

Coolio, I've just downloaded and installed it on my T-mobile UK locked handset.

Selected Gingerbread keyboard (in keyboard settings), but it still looks like the previous keyboard.

Any ideas?

just installed it and it works fine...and hint to those who go over to XDA to pick it up and they see *Vibrate on key press doesnt work* its because by default its switched off....there IS a settings button on the bottom row of the keyboard next to the speech input button...and that will bring up a big 'ol settings menu...and *BOOM* can turn on vibrate...

I have kinda gone back to using Smart Keyboard though as the buttons are just that much bigger...things like the space I really miss not being larger...and I could careless for keys like speech input or keyboard removal key...hell thats what the back button is for..

Same here and with the Gingerbread keyboard, you have to switch screens to add punctuation!! Too much of a hassle.

hell I didnt get as far as the punctuation...just noticed keys are smaller in portrait mode and actually I use that mode alot..so didnt wanna compromise..

saying that its fast and smooth which is nice...I'll keep it installed but probably wont use it...

Smarter Keyboard all the way for me :D

I use the Gingerbread skin on Smartkeyboard Pro so it looks like the port but with bigger keys: ;)

A few days ago tried a friend's iPhone and got so irritated to switch screens for punctuation - I use punctuation always - so, for me it's a "Major Drawback"; Love Htc's own keyboard.

I dislike the Android keyboard. Even Gingerbread. Looks nice but HTC Modded keyboards can look much nicer IMO:

I'm gona put it out there - I actually really like the Gingerbread keyboard. I was using the stock Android 2.2 keyboard before as opposed to the HTC keyboard. it is just as accurate and matched the colours of the Desire much better (dark colours/black).
Just installed this gingerbread one and it is nice. The keys are slightly smaller but I find the spacing between them is still just fine to type nice and quick.
As for punctuation - if you hold onto the full stop button, a little pop window comes up and you just slide you finger to the punctuation you want. Its quite a nice little touch.
Personal preference though - but I like not having messy keys with the punctuation and letter on, and I prefer the colour scheme of the froyo/gingerbread stock android keyboards.

I think if you long-press on any entry widget, you'll get the dialog to choose keyboards.

A note from our sponsors - the Gingerbread keyboard apk is part of a standard Android distribution so we're ok posting links or apks (links prefered) on this one. Copyrighted, paid keyboard apps - no links, no apks, thanks in advance!

For further clarification, does that mean we cannot link to the android market or app brain for paid-for apps OR that we cannot link to illegitimate sources for the paid apps (warez etc)

Apologies that I was unclear, many thanks for asking and allowing me to clarify!

Links to Appbrain, the Market, QR codes, devs' sites, root rom and related packages at safe places like XDA - all AOK and even encouraged.

Links or posts that circumvent legal copyrights, such as warez, illegitimate sources (example: swype apk links), copyrighted apks stripped out and posted separately at XDA - all NOT OK.

Make sense?

why the mention though? no one linked to anything OTHER than the gingerbread apk (and XDA) and skins for an already paid app....no not allowed linking went on :D

Oh and you *ARE* right...long press in any text entry box and you will get the standard (cut, paste..etc box come up) with "Input Entry" at the bottom...thats where you select your keyboard..

Preventative measure?

A little of that, but more clarification for newbie lurkers who get easily confused.

As I type this, we have over 6800 lurker / guests, many driven here by google searches for keyboards and/or anything with gingerbread in it.

Before the day is out, a great many of these will become new posters here.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, gang, it's just that I wanted to be out front helping newcomers on this important topic - the holidays are coming - and with them, stockings full of shiny new Android phones! ;)

And yes - you guys are doing great on this issue - hence my desire to use it as a positive example of another quality thread.

Cheers!
