Gingerbread Keyboard on Captivate

Hey all,

Found this on Reddit yesterday - a Gingerbread keyboard APK. You can install it without root, but it needs to be sideloaded.

I got it up and running. The keyboard itself is awesome - looks good, has a good autotext feature, fast and accurate, etc. I really like the row of symbols on the top.

Some issues -
Key vibrate on touch doesn't work (this is a known issue for Galaxy S phones)
I can't find how to get the little microphone icon back (the one that you press so you can speak what you want to type). I have seen screenshots that include this, but on my phone I only see a comma key.

Otherwise I am pretty happy with it! Give it a try!

Edit: spelling

I use Smart Keyboard from the market. You can change the look of it and it has the voice microphone. There is another part that it prompts you to download that has the language and dictionary. It is very accurate for voice recognition and does a great job of correcting mistakes as you type.

Normally, we don't allow sharing apk downloads of any kind - but because this is a standard Android component, we're ok with it.

You can share links to the Market, Appbrain, or the app's home page - no sharing of copyrighted apks, no linking to warez sites.

Thanks for your attention in this matter, and cheers!

I've heard good things about this, and about some other third-party keyboards. TBH, I am happy with the stock 2.1 keyboard, I was just curious to see if I could get the Gingerbread one working correctly.

I wouldn't dream of it! And I can totally dig the proactive moderating.

I figured this would be OK since it was on a number of reputable blogs/sites.
