Gingerbread Keyboard

quick question, I couldn't find the answer through google. When browsing the web on the tbolt, for instance go to google.com and begin typing in the search box, the gingerbread keyboard comes up and there is a "-->|" next to the spacebar and really makes the spacebar small. What the does this key do? Is it possible to remove?

I am not sure what that key is since i downloaded that keyboard and used it for like 1 day. It was a very very irritating keyboard. I missed how on the standard keyboard i can lower the keyboard. Plus other things that just drove me crazy about the gingerbread keyboard.
