Help Gingerbread/OTA issues Thread

I had the same issue, after 3 failed tries to get 4.08 I called Verizon CS. They are sending me a replacement phone. Do they replace it with the Incredible 2?

I was having the same problems as everyone else is having regarding the low storage message and not getting my messages, being unable to browse and not installing the 2nd update at all due to "low storage". I decided to do a factory reset on my phone, and when I was prompted by the phone that there was a system update, I installed it and it was successfully installed without a problem. I had backed up all of my info, including my games, but my games were the only things I wasn't able to recover. Now my phone is working like new (duh) and I haven't received any of those annoying messages again. Hope this helps someone. This whole thing was a real drag. I was considering switching to another phone but didn't have the funds for it. I hope this issue doesn't happen again.

I'm current on all the Android updates that have happened recently. But now I frequently get an "SMS Error" no explanation, red triangle icon, and it won't send the text. If I just hit "OK" on the error it will repeatedly send the text out. If I hit "Cancel" it won't send the text at all. Help?

Are you on wi-fi? I've had this happen as well, but only on wi-fi.

not on wifi. also i noticed there is an error message it says "Cause Code 97, Error Class 2"

In case anyone else has this problem - the fix was to uninstall "advanced task killer" and my antivirus software. No more repeated texts or text error messages.

LOL, this phone has become comical. I've tried a couple of the tricks in this thread to try to download the newest update, and nothing works. But that's no big deal, as I understand the newest update still won't fix the "Low on space" problem. Please just go ahead and release the Galaxy Nexus so I can get rid of this piece of crap.

You can root and apply the fix for the Low on space bug here. Install the Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip file in Clock work.

Have you tried to manually update it yourself?

Finally got the update to work after about 15 attempts yesterday. Took me about an hour. In the process, uninstalled most of my apps and somehow deleted my contacts. I've tried using My Backup Assistant to restore my address book but no dice so far. Also can't seem to get my Facebook contacts to sync with the phone like they did when I first got it.

I will never buy another HTC phone again as long as I live.

Try disabling 'fastboot' and moving apps to phone then back to SD card... also didn't you sync contacts to google? That should be all you need to get your contacts back

About the 16th or 17th of November I got the upgrade notice. Checked online to make sure of no known issues and went ahead with the upgrade. I'm not rooted, tried z4root quite awhile back but it didn't do anything noticeable. Phone shows s-on

On the 20th I was at a football game and the battery died, phone hadn't been without power since the upgrade. When I got the chance to charge it and boot it up it will only come up to the white HTC Incredible boot screen. Did a battery pull, etc and still no go. Tried doing a factory reset and it mentions volumes that it can't load "datadata" etc and some sdcard ones. Much to my chagrin I formatted my sdcard that I was using to fat32 and tried to manually flash gingerbread (4.06 variety) through hboot. Still the white boot screen issue. Today I tried doing the 4.08 and still the same issue. It'll go through the update, ask me to reboot, I'll say yes... reboots to the screen with the phone and the circular green arrows above it with the green down arrow in the middle. Then it reboots again and sticks on the white boot screen again. Every now and again it'll make it to the red eye animation and then stop after the eyes go back and forth two or three times.

I've also tried using a stock recovery which didn't seem to work. Also tried to downgrade and like I figured, it told me that it was an older version.

Possible hardware issue with funny timing? What should I try now? I don't know that Verizon will replace it since the screen is cracked and I'm a few weeks late on my bill.. I'll probably just replace the phone with something else until my upgrade comes up in January but I'm hoping that there's somehow a way to fix this one.

I apologize if I've left out any important details, I've never really messed much with my phone so if I overlooked sharing anything my fault.

Any ideas? Thanks!
