Help Gingerbread/OTA issues Thread

I'm coming across the same issues other people been having after the recent update, but the most damaging to me has been the fact that my contact list have been completely erased and could not sync to the backup Google account. I figured I'd just export all my contacts from the Google account via pc to phone, but upon looking up my account, I see that I have NO contacts in my list. I regularly backup using the Backup Assistant, but somehow everything is gone.

Any solutions?

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I went to Settings - SD & Phone Storage - Unmount SD card, then remount the sd card. I restarted the phone and the apps were all back to normal.

Brettlewis,

It took over 15 minutes for my phone to do the entire upgrade this morning. When it hits the droid eye during the reboot, it will sit there for over 5 minutes with no indication that it is working. You just have to be patient. It will eventually complete.

Mine never made it to the droid eye. It was on the install screen and it said "rebooting" it just sat there and said "rebooting" for at least 3 minutes. Never actually rebooted. Never finished update, cant force it now. Stil on 2.2

Well, with the update to the GB update, it seems to have fixed the voice recognition problem.

However, has anyone had a problem with their contacts list either going away, or getting synced to like Facebook and overwriting existing info? My gf's phone seems to have sync'ed to her Facebook, even though in the Accounts settings it was most definitely turned off... and it overwrote a ton of her contacts with either old, or wrong information - ie. contacts that have either wrong or no phone number!

  1. Updated to 2.3.4 yesterday successfully
  2. notified of update to 4.08.605.2 today
  3. first attempt, said not enough space
  4. did the date switch trick to get the update again
  5. now it downloads, I press install and reboot
  6. it does the countdown and sits there, not rebooting

any advice?

Same problem here.....got the 2.34 update yesterday.....notified of update today.....etc...etc...etc....
I have searched this thread and can't find the "date switch trick" you mentioned.
Can you point me to it?

Thx in advance....

Hightech,

Have you seen anyone on the boards who used the date trick for this update and it worked? Seems everyone like Sharon get prompted for the update but it does not go through. You may not want to try that trick right now.

Same thing here except I havent tried the date trick. What a joke this is. I will NEVER get another HTC phone again because of this debacle and that dreaded "low space warning".

Let us know how the Dinc2 handles memory. I thought no changes had been made to fix things.
I'm on my 1st year with my Dinc1, hoping a 2 is still available when mine craps out.

I'm sticking with 2.2 for sure, have no reason to upgrade.

I haven't received any upgrade nags at all. I did move a file someone recommended to the SD card to hopefully disable upgrades. (forgot its name).

I'm as happy as can be since I rooted, used RootExplorer and NotEnoughSpace. Also I found a 50MB Contacts2.db file and deleted it. It is now a few KB.

It took LOTS of reading, here and elsewhere, a bit of complicated tinkering and now I have an INCREDIBLE Droid. :)

Adding a CLASS 10 SD card speeded things up a bunch too.

Without the forums it would have been a disaster.

Bo

I was one of the sorry saps that got the 1st Gingerbread update which totally hosed my phone. They sent me a 2 as a replacement and it seems to have no memory issues. Not a single low space notification, even though it only has 1 gig of internal memory.

So what I am gathering is there really is not a way to re-force the update except to change the date but that doesn't force it correctly in this instance? Does anyone know how to push the download if it didn't complete due to low memory (or whatever the reason was) or if the update will try itself again at a later time? BTW my husband has a Droid Incredible as well and he got the update with no problem yesterday but lost some of his apps, these apps came back the next day with a second update this morning.

I received the Gingerbread update (Build #4.06.605.3 NOT the 4.08.605.2 Build # Verizon is advertising) pushed out from Verizon on the morning of Tuesday 11/15 and my Droid Incredible immediately went haywire. I got "low memory," and "low storage," notifications (which in turn would not allow my bluetooth and email and other notifications to download or work properly), despite there being plenty of free space, some of my icons appeared stacked on top of other icons on my home screens, other icons would appear multiple times or just disappear completely, and quite humorously, Verizon was removed from the Market, and replaced by SPRINT! After doing some research online, I figured out that this update I received was actually the original Gingerbread update Verizon began pushing out back in September (which I never received), but then pulled because of these glitches, and I learned that they would be pushing that update 1st to those who never got it, and then push out a fix. Sure enough, late that same night, I got prompted to download another Gingerbread update, supposedly to fix the problems of the 1st one. I initiated the update, and then my phone told me that I did not have enough space and would have to clear message and mail data and remove apps, and then proceed with the update. I did precisely that, and got rid of the low space message, however, once I freed up tons of space, I was no longer prompted to receive the update, and the OTA has not been available to me again since. I did a soft reset, and even tried to reprogram the roaming capabilities, but neither helped. I contacted Verizon, who claimed it was their 1st time hearing of the Sprint Market issue (despite me reading about it online), and the Verizon rep apologized and contacted HTC for a 3 way conference call. HTC was absolutely NO help. The HTC rep just listened to my issues and said that I basically just had to wait for the update to push out again and that it "eventually" would. He said he had "no idea of a timeframe," but it "shouldn't take more than 2 weeks," adding that "it could happen later tonight." Contrary to what others with similar problems have stated Verizon told them, Verizon stated to me that I could NOT go to a Verizon store to get the software manually updated, and like HTC said, I would have to wait for the OTA. As for my current glitches, the HTC rep recommended I do a factory reset in the meantime, something I am dead set against doing since I just had to do one on this phone just 3 weeks ago, and had to do another several months ago. (Another thing absolutely ridiculous considering I've had the phone for just a year and 2 weeks). I have to say, I loved my HTC Incredible when I 1st got it, and thought HTC had a customer for life, but the issues I've had with this phone, and the lack of proper customer service/resolutions has me DYING to jump ship! There's no way I'm doing yet another factory reset, especially when Ice Cream Sandwich is about to come out and I will be getting a new phone...Don't think I'll ever be coming back to HTC.

I have the exact same problem. Got the first update, unable to install the second, and it keeps telling me my phone is up to date.

Also I have an annoyance... not a bug, but very annoying. Any time I turn on the GPS- even through the power control widget or settings->location setting->standalone GPS services I get a popup dialog reminding me that "By selecting standalone GPS services, you are enabling access to all location information..." etc.

I did get the warning on startup once, and I clicked "never warn," under the misguided assumption I wouldn't get warned again. Instead, I have the dialog pop up any time I turn on the GPS, and the only option is "OK" or "cancel."

I know I could keep the GPS on all day, but I work in the center of a cube farm office building and in the past I have had battery drain issues, and no GPS reception. I opt to keep it off while at work and in my house, and turn it on for the drive home.

However I also manage my phone's state with Tasker, which automatically turns off my GPS when I get out of my car, and back on when I get in (detected by bluetooth pairing). Unfortunately, the automation is rendered useless, as it never does turn on anymore- it gets preempted by the same popup warning if I'm not paying attention.

I'm not rooted and have no real interest to do so, but is there any other way to disable this message? Everything worked fine until this danged update.

I believe that this is one of the fixes in GB 4.08. :)

I also got the update notice yesterday and when I tried to install, it said that I did not have enough memory.
I transferred many of my apps to the SD card and I did the date change trick and it prompted me to do the update but it won't finish the install.
My screen shows that it has downloaded and verified bit is stuck on "Rebooting now".
I have done this now 5 times with no success.

So much for the date change trick.

Finally got mine to take the update but when it rebooted it was stuck at the white HTC screen. Have s-off so tried to reflash a custom recovery through fastboot but it won't flash, I think its because I turned fastboot off in the phones settings? Since my bootloader is unlocked I thought it should have been a simple flash. And adb doesn't even recognize the phone so can't push a recovery that way. Strange that the phone is listed in fastboot devices but not adb devices. Anyways called Verizon and tech guy said the update is causing a lot of problems and his Incredible did the same thing as mine but he was able to recover it by selecting clear storage in hboot. Mine wouldn't recover so I'm getting a replacement.

Only good thing to happen today was that my warranty expired 2 weeks ago but the tech extended it so I could get a free replacement. I told him I'm getting a new phone off contract in December and he said to email him as he will see what he can do so I don't have to pay full price. The iPhone 4s 32 GB is $750 off contract and there is no price yet for the Nexus and any discount would help once I decide which to get.

After the Gingerbread update, my Incredible does not recognize my SD Card at all. It just says unavailable. I've put my card in other phones, it works. I've put other cards in my phone and they work. What the hell happened?

You probably will need to reformat the card. What I'd do is plug the card into my card reader on my computer, copy everything to the computer. (assuming you have some form of windows) right click on the card in My Computer, select format, and format it as fat32. When that's done put everything back on the card and hopefully the card works.

Got the gingerbread update.it will only show the unread email count on the email icon when I restart the phone.after that soon as I load up email it will never show the unread email again. I under stand the change is to only show the unread count since you last checked but i'm getting no unread counts period.

My HTC Droid Incredible installed a system update yesterday (no clue what it was, I'm far from tech savvy). Now it can't seem to find my sd card. I connected it to my laptop with the USB cord and everything is there and fine, but the phone on it's own can't find it. The 2 main problems I'm having with that are with my music (and the ringtones I had cut myself) and my gallery. I snap a picture and try to go to my gallery right after, and there are "no pictures/video to display." Anybody know how I can fix this?

My understanding is they got rid of the counter all together. I'm there are a ton of things on the market that will give you similar functionality (try searching "unread email count", or something like that).
