did the ota update this am and now its screwed! i unrooted and did the update, when it rebooted it stuck on red moto symbol. multiple battery pulls, held home and power button it goes black when let go of power but then red moto comes back and stuck again. help!

i did have bloatware frozen via titanium backup though. I think thats what happened. How do i undo this mess now?

per the instructions in some of the sticky threads, you should have unfrozen all of your bloatware

I'm assuming you tried to manually update instead of allowing the phone to update on its own, as it should have failed on its own

that being the case, sbf'ing is your only hope, my friend

If you play dumb and the phone is still under warranty (or if you bought insurance and are willing to pay the deductible) they may replace it for you. They will certainly NOT fix it at the store. They will give you a certified "like new" replacement and you will not get your old phone back.

Edit: On a similar note, my Droid X got screwed after I tried to update to 2.3.340 because I had rooted it and removed some bloat. I called VZW, said "my phone broke itself" and after patiently waiting through all the suggested self fixes they walked me through (that I had already tried) the lady told me they would send me a replacement.

some verizon stores have flashing stations where they can get you back to stock. But those are coming fewer and further between these days.

will verizon fix it if i take it in?

You can SBF back to .340 in 15 minutes then you SHOULD be able to download the OTA. Just follow the instructions and get the correct file (Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340 Full (VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01).

SBF’ing the Droid X U D G

(But I really like the Linux option above... NICE! I'm thinking about going back to .340 that way just to check it out.)

SBF will fix that no problem, I did the same thing when I first rooted/installed/screwed up GB.

AWESOME!

I just did this to check it out (was already running .596) and am back to .340.

I'm currently pulling the OTA (installed .596 manually yesterday)

Confused yet? I have way to much free time... :D

yeah i thought it was great. i was stuck in a bootloop after trying to add the crt animation on an odexed version of 596 and i was scouring the forums for a fix. i have a macbook and could not find a way to do it without installing windows first and then i happened to come across the post in the droid x forums and i was saved.
