Gingerbread release incredible s

Now available on unbranded Incredible S in the UK.

Anyone downloaded?

My incredible is unbranded and there does not seem to be gingerbread for download as yet today.

Just downloading my helping of gingerbread now. In Ireland here :)

I didn't notice much difference apart from the favourites now has a tab on the top left and the front facing camera is now working.

Someone in an earlier post (not from UK) said the font size had increased, effectively lowering the resolution. I've also heard bad things about the wireless connection threshold, meaning it will drop out easier - can anyone comment?

Checked today, downloading now over wi-fi at home. Taking its time though. Sitting doing nothing at the moment. :(

/crosses fingers

On 2nd thoughts if anything does happen to my Inc.S, that will be a good excuse to raid the piggy bank for a Sensation. This is the 1st time I have ever wanted my tech to get FUBAR'd. LOL. :D

edit:- Phone now working. Seems jerky but there seems to be a lot of updating going on.
Liking the new tabs (Notifications/Quick Settings) after pulling down the Notification Bar. That kind of makes the Notification Toggle app redundant.

Ok, i got bored of waiting so decided to update mine.

Not happy at all. Phone is noticeably slower and incredibly laggy when using third party keyboards, so much so that's it's unusable.

Font size on text and mail is increased and doesn't look good. The application Menu is more difficult and slower to navigate. THe only slight improvement I can see is the accelerometer seems to be a little faster switching orientation.

In conclusion, don't upgrade, you will probably regret it!

Got mine UK update, works great! Everything true to the last punctuation about gingerbread in the change logs, cheers! :)

Downloaded mine this morning.

Getting dropped Wi-Fi issue which has been a known problem over the last couple of leaks. Anybody else experiancing any problems.

Also noticed that the font is alot bigger on the Messages screen.

Just wondering, how much bigger is the font? Is it that big of a problem? I've been hearing a lot of complaints about that and just wanted to know how bad it is....maybe someone can take a picture of it if they don't mind? Thanks!

Yes I experienced the dropped wi-fi issue last night after updating too. Unbelievable!

The font size is noticeably bigger, which I don't like. Kind of makes the screen look a bit 'cheap'. Overall, a terrible update which has ruined my phone! Think we should all drop HTC an e-mail to complain. Can't roll back to 2.2 either, which is not good.

I've updated to 2.3.3 I'm finding it hard to notice any significant change. I've certainly not noticed any font increase either.

As for performance it seems to be the same as before. So all in all not much to report on this. A bit boring really.

A reboot or a hard reset may help solve your problem....have u tried it??
Even the DHD users are facing this wifi drop issue...there is a work around for this ..but it requires root...never expected Inc S to get the same issue...

Back up all your data... and do a hard reset.... and share your experience....

I don't think a hard reset will help as it seems to be affecting all HTCs with Gingerbread. I chose the Incredible S over the Desire S as read about the latter having the wi-fi death grip issue. Now it seems the Incredible S has it, care of an 'upgrade'! How ironic!

Pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but if I factory reset my phone, will it go back to 2.2.1 or just a factory default of the newly installed 2.3.3?

I'm guessing the latter...

The upgrade is definitely country wise. I have an unlocked Incredible S and I was using in India so far and checking everyday - no update to Gingerbread.

Today I arrived in US on a business trip and out of curiosity checked for update and promptly reported that 2.3.3 was available!

So I went through with it and everything went fine. No huge difference for good or for worse. So keeping my fingers crossed ..

I updated my phone this morning:

Android version: 2.3.3
Software number: 2.12.405.7

But I'm not impressed. My email client is not displaying any emails, despite the notification telling me that I have 15 emails. When I enter the email client it tells me that there are no emails!

Also the font is absolutely HUGE!

Oh dear, I wish I could rollback to the previous version?

Yes..your guess is correct...
HTC shd immediately stop this update...
Am confused cos i am seeing mixed responses...some have the wifi issue..some say its fine...
Read somewhere in DHD forum that HTC has acknowledged this issue..
hoping for a better update....

I think it would be useful if everyone affected dropped HTC an email. I already have, but the more people that complain the more likely it is they will do something about it promptly. It would seem I'm also getting a lot more cell network drop out which I wasn't experiencing before the update.

I did that already and hope for a patch in the near future. Thankfully, the overall sharpness wasn't affected, but the font size in the message window is very disappointing...

OK, I deleted all my email accounts and calendar, rebooted the phone, re-installed my email (POP: Hotmail and Yahoo!) and Calendar (ActiveSync/Push: Hotmail) and the emails are now displaying in my email client. Sync'ing seems to be fine...so far. The font for the mail-headers is still way too big but the text within the email is small as per my setting.

I wish there was a list of updates and changes for this new update. I'm still trying to find out what this new update gives me. It's too early to say if the battery life has improved.

I did notice a new "app" called "Mirror" which is as much use as a chocolate teapot ;).

[p.s. I do wish Hotmail ActiveSync supported HTML emails instead of plain text. That's why I'm still using POP for my email as a consequence].

I am from the Philippines (using the GLOBE network), and I am using an HTC INCREDIBLE S (unlocked) that I purchased in Hong Kong.

I just received a system update notification this morning.....informing me that the Gingerbread update (2.3.3) is now available.

---------------

Downloading process
--- the phone downloaded the update files in the background (using a wifi connection) so I can still use my phone. You are given the option also to use your mobile data connection if wifi is not available. The file size is 90+MB if I remember correctly.

Updating process

--- after downloading, you will be asked if you want to start the update process. This will shut down the phone, and you won't be able to use it for around 10 minutes.

After the updating process
--- the phone will start up like before. The first thing I noticed ---- the live wallpaper was VERY sluggish! The screen was not as responsive as before. Since this is the first start up since my update, I just let everything run for the first time. After around 3 minutes, everything settled down and my phone ran smoothly already.

First Impressions

-- The screen is MORE RESPONSIVE than Froyo.

-- Moving from one homescreen to another is SMOOTHER.

-- Browsing the web is SMOOTHER and multi-touch is more responsive.

-- I can now easily switch cameras from rear to front when taking photos (there is a new shortcut on-screen). The MIRROR app uses the front facing camera as well.

-- System fonts are definitely BIGGER......but NOT TOO BIG that they look blown out as if like you are using a low-res android phone. Saw this change in MENU SETTINGS, MESSAGES, MAIL, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, and GALLERY list. The change in the font size makes everything easier to read, but I would still prefer a smaller system font. Hopefully this can be changed in the settings.

-- Scrolling through the main app list in Grid View is now PER PAGE.......not an endless scrolling page like before.

Still playing around with Gingerbread 2.3.3, but so far I am loving it!
