Root gingerbread roms

Cool i managed to root yesterday thanks to your help dude think i wana go with ginger villian think i might miss the sense widgets tho aha aps2sd is included i see do i have to do anything to my sd before to prepare like partition or move all my apps back to my phn

Those roms are polar opposites. Go for a sense Rom first and experiment with launcherpro. You may then get used to not using sense widgets. If you get to that point as I did, you can go for a non-sense Rom.

For me, the longer I used sense, the more I noticed its short comings

Cool ther a tut on flashing roms jus so i make sure i dont mess uponly other prob i notice on xda theres leedroid ver d now do i hav to flash an earlier ver then upgrade or wat really confusing stuff this lol

Ok so iv downloaded rom manager its askin me to instal clockwork mod recovery i thot i already should hav this wen i rooted with unrevoked? Im going to set a partition up for aps2sd then all i need to do is make a nandroid backup and then select and flash a rom? Oh and backup using titanium aswe

Remember to back up your SD card to your PC as well. ;)

Cool jus transfer all to folder then? Can u shed any light on why rom manager is askin for clockworkmod to be installed?

Yep, that's right.

ROM Manager boots into the ClockworkMod update on your SD card. I think that's right? Dan will probably correct or confirm as appropriate.

unrevoked installed clockwork as a real custom recovery. But ROM manager installs another copy on the SD card or internal memory (can't remember which - I don't use it) which it uses instead. So it won't work unless you let it "install" clockwork, but it won't affect the clockwork unrevoked installed.

Personally I don't bother with ROM manager. Boot into recovery (you can even install an app called "quickboot" which lets you do this directly without going through Hboot), then do everything from there: make backups, wipe, clear cache, flash updates, or restore from backup. I prefer this because that way I know exactly what I'm doing, and the more knowledgeable regulars here recommend it also.

I don't really recommend Rom manager to partition cause if it goes wrong you still need something like gparted to fix it.

Although unrevoked replaces the native recovery with clockwork on the true sense (flash), Rom manager uses fake flash. By that I mean it doesn't use the proper version you have, rather it downloads a second version, puts it on sd card an applies it as an update.zip so if Rom manager is really the way you want to go, you still have to download it via rom manager a second time to partition

If u dont recomend it ill use other way thanks so do i jus put rom on sd card then boit recovery an flash after making backup

Yes

Boot recovery, backup, flash. If still no boot after 15 minutes boot back to recovery and wipe (factory reset)

Also recommend titanium backup of apps first so if you wipe, you can restore apps

Great u recomend always tryin without wipe i also cant tell wat ver im meant to flash of leedroid? I mean do i have to flash an early ver before upgrading to.2.3d?

Think I may give GV a punt. Like you Dan, I like what Richard Trip is doing and am a fan of Defrost. GV seems like the next logic step if I want Gingerbread, I didn't really like Oxygen as I feel it's still a bit under-developed.

Yes, I couldn't get on with Oxygen for some reason. Just didn't seem to sit well on my Desire for some reason. GV is running very well, I have to say.

Finally decided to give GV another try, so far it all seems to be fine. One thing is really bugging me though - I can't work out how to turn off the 'mobile versions of websites', so when I try to go to BBC R4 for example (showing my age there) I get the crap mobile version, not the real website.

I know it should be easy to stop this but I really can't find it. Any help?

Any word on when the final, official version of CM7 will be released?

Can't wait to see Gingerbread Defrost :D

I'd like to find out the general setting myself as it isn't where I'd expect it to be in the browser: Menu > More > Settings.

Still looking TBH.

In the case of BBC R4, however, you can click the 'Go to desktop site' link near the bottom of the page.
