Help Gingerbread with Cyanogen on my 860 Ascend?

I understand I need cyangen to load gingerbread onto my huawei ascend 860, is that correct? or are they two different os's?

I believe my last update on my ascend 860 was froyo?

It was Froyo in you're on MetroPCS, and Eclair if you're on Cricket.

And yes, there is no official Android ROM above Froyo for Ascend. You have to go the CyanogenMod ROM route, and the Ascend ROM is currently maintained by PlayfulGod (who has done a freaking awesome job btw). You can find his custom ROMs on Prepaid Android Wiki and PlayfulDroidz Wiki. You can find a ton of info and guides in the Ultimate Ascend Customization Guide in the Ascend - All Things Root subforum, and tons of links and downloads in the Handy Ascend Download Links.
