Root gingerbread

i rooted my evo 2 days ago, not sure what i want to run, but i have a friend that said he is running gingerbread, is this possible? is anybody else using it?

There are several of them. If you know how to flash ROMs, it's no different. Here are a few different variations currently available:

[ROM] 01-03 Salvage-Mod .9.5 GB! Back up. - xda-developers
[ROM-AOSP][12-30-10] Evervolv | GRH55/Android 2.3.1 | v1.0.0a15 | Stock Launcher! - xda-developers
New [ROM] [AOSP] 2.3.1 eVoKINGS-GINGERBREAD-project_X GBv2 12/29/10 - xda-developers
[ROM-DEV] Stock Gingerbread beta 4 - xda-developers

Note that these are not considered final by any means, and none of them having everything working. Most notably 4g doesn't work, and there are camera issues.

whats the big deal with gingerbread? different menu??? OTA music transfer? google translate in the web browser? Nothing I have seen got me the least bit excited  maybe i'm missing something?

thansk for the link, to me the notification bar, and the menu are kinda like "whatever" I use adw launcher anyways so I already have a different menu, also I use swift keyboard, so I doubt the new stock keyboard would be super inticing either. Probly the main thing I saw that sounds like it would be a big help is the one touch copy and paste feature on words.
Is the "improved battery life" going to be any better than what we can already achieve with different kernels and setcpu?
Not trying to be negative Nancy, just seems like alot of hype for what seem to be small changes, but who knows maybe when I get to use it, I will notice a big difference
